Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Has an Unusual Episode Release Schedule

The upcoming Marvel animated series titled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will have an atypical release plan starting its run on Disney+. Initially, the first two episodes are slated for January 29th this month. Subsequent episodes of the season will be released weekly thereafter, with groups of three episodes premiering each week. Specifically, Episodes 3, 4, and 5 will air on February 5th; Episodes 6, 7, and 8 follow on February 12th; and finally, Episodes 9 and 10 wrap up the season on February 19th.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 5, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” is set in a reality distinct from the primary MCU timeline. This series intends to reimagine Peter Parker’s origin story, where he juggles his high school life with his superhero duties. In December, the official trailer for “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” was unveiled, emphasizing its unique town and comic book-inspired visual style, a tribute to classic Spider-Man comics.

To set it apart from other Spider-Man adaptations, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man doesn’t include characters like Ned or MJ but instead focuses on a variety of characters from Marvel comics, leveraging the vast array of villains in Spider-Man’s universe. The show boasts a talented voice cast featuring Hudson Thames as Peter Parker, Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn, and Charlie Cox as Daredevil.

It’s unclear why Disney has chosen an unusual release pattern for their shows on Disney+. Normally, streaming series either drop all episodes at once or release them weekly. However, Marvel’s series on Disney+ have used both approaches. For instance, last year, the entire season of Echo was made available on the same day. It could be that the strategy for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is to group episodes together because they collectively tell smaller stories within the larger season. This way, viewers can watch an entire storyline in one sitting instead of having to wait a week for each new installment.

It’s equally possible that Disney is trying to avoid any conflict between their 2025 Marvel series on Disney+, such as “Daredevil: Born Again” which premiers on March 4th. Although the audience for this live-action series may differ significantly from the animated “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man”, it seems that Marvel Studios is aiming to provide each show with its own unique spotlight, allowing them to be the main event for Marvel fans without any overlap. Consequently, “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” would have concluded by the time “Daredevil: Born Again” arrives on the scene.
