In recent times, Storm has experienced a surge in fame, with significant roles in the revamped X-Men ’97 and joining the Avengers team. For the very first time, this X-Man is leading her own series, titled “Storm,” focusing on her solo escapades post-Krakoa fall, as she assumes the role of Earth’s Protector. Storm’s career as a solo act nearly ended prematurely when she was exposed to radiation while saving civilians at a power plant. Fortunately, Doctor Voodoo managed to cure her, but with any magical intervention comes its price. The debt that Ororo Munroe incurred has come due, marking the start of a new phase for Earth’s most powerful mutant.

In the fourth installment, the creative force behind Storm includes Murewa Ayodele, Lucas Werneck, Alex Guimaraes, Fer Sifuentes-Sujo, and VC’s Travis Lanham. Storm is called to Latveria, summoned by Doctor Doom, who now holds the title of Sorcerer Supreme in the Marvel Universe. The duo has a history of intellectual clashes, and Storm is among the select few whom Doom generally acknowledges with due respect… except for those rare instances when he doesn’t.
Doctor Doom has studied Storm extensively, and his personal chefs have recreated a gumbo that her father used to make when she was young as a special treat for her. She enjoys the main dish, but not the dessert. However, when Storm has an adverse reaction to the dessert, Doctor Doom calls the pastry chef over to the dining table to be punished publicly for his mistake in front of Storm. In response, Storm throws knives at the guards, demonstrating that she is still unable to use her mutant powers following her rescue from radiation poisoning.
Doctor Doom wants to turn Storm into his mutant ambassador
The truce has been broken, and now Storm and Doctor Doom are moving on to the heart of their encounter. It was actually Doctor Doom who proposed a dinner with Storm, hoping to persuade her into becoming his representative for mutants. However, Storm recognizes his ulterior motive, and she openly criticizes him for trying to enlist mutants at a time when governments are hoarding omega-level mutants like they would nuclear weapons.
Despite his anger towards Doom, Storm, as Sorcerer Supreme, restores her mutant abilities – an action that summons the spirit Eegun, bound by their agreement. However, Storm’s premature use of her powers triggered Eegun, who sought to claim her life in retribution and threatened the entire planet with destruction. Fortunately, a celestial being intervened, not only reviving Storm but also bestowing upon her newfound titles and abilities.
Meet Storm, Herald of Eternity
In the midst of Storm’s lifeless body on the ground and a fierce battle between Eegun and Doctor Doom, Storm encounters her late father in the afterlife. After an emotional reunion, her father informs her that she can’t meet her mother yet as there’s a higher purpose for her. This purpose becomes apparent when the mighty cosmic entity, Eternity, chooses Storm to serve as his herald. Given her previous commitment to protect Earth, it seems only fitting that Storm takes on this role for Eternity, who oversees the universe of Earth-616.
In a unique twist, Eternity echoes the well-known X-Men slogan, “To me, my X-Men,” but with a personalized touch: “To me… my Eternal Storm.” Previously known as Storm of Earth, she experiences a dramatic transformation, exchanging her formal wear for a streamlined, white suit. As an electrical storm gathers overhead in the dining room, lightning bolts flash around Storm, fatally striking Eegun as the comic comes to a close.
This concept has been hinted at since the initial issue of Storm. Eternity, in a sense, has been observing events unfold and is prepared to act when the situation demands it. Being designated as Eternity’s herald significantly alters Storm’s usual state, solidifying her as a significant character within the broader Marvel universe. This all occurs ahead of Storm’s 50th anniversary this year, which will be celebrated in issue #7 of Storm.
