As a passionate fan, I can’t help but ponder over the tantalizing prospect of a crossover between Final Fantasy XIV (FFXIV) and Final Fantasy VII (FF7). Given the frequent crossovers FFXIV has with other games, like the Fall Guys event, and FF7’s own involvement in crossovers with games such as Apex Legends, a collaboration between these two iconic titles doesn’t seem too far-fetched.
As speculation swirls about the possibility of an FF7 x FFXIV crossover, my mind is filled with ideas about how this event could unfold or which characters might find themselves in Eorzea. The more I delve into both games’ content, the more I am convinced that a harmonious blend of these worlds is not just possible but also exciting to imagine.
In their current states, the realms of Hydaelyn and Gaia appear unconnected. Nevertheless, they were crafted in such a way that potentially allows for an infinite number of connections between them, making it relatively straightforward to arrange a crossover event. This wasn’t feasible in the original version of Final Fantasy 7, but with the remake, especially the later scene in Rebirth, this has become possible.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Confirms the Existence of Multiple Timelines
Towards the closing stages of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Sephiroth leads Cloud into a blank space situated between numerous parallel universes’ timelines. He reveals his intention to unite all these timelines into one, but laments that Cloud can only hear cries from different timelines instead of perceiving them. This scenario opens up the possibility for a crossover with various games, as any characters could be written off as individuals displaced from Sephiroth’s merging endeavors in alternate realities.
How FFXIV Also Features Alternate Timelines
In the case of Final Fantasy XIV, you’ll find a comparable structure in its universe that allows for crossovers with many other games. This universe, originally known as Etheirys, was once whole and unified thousands of years before the events of FFXIV. The harmony ended when the first primals, Zodiark and Hydaelyn, clashed. Hydaelyn managed to imprison Zodiark by striking him seven times, weakening him. However, each blow not only shattered Zodiark into pieces but also split Etheirys and its inhabitants apart as well.
After their confrontation, Etheirys fragmented into fourteen mirror-like pieces, each representing a fraction of the original realm. You assume the role of the Light Warrior within the Source, which is analogous to the central reflection, allowing other fragments to combine with the Source given certain conditions. Moreover, it’s important to note that the passage of time varies across these reflections; what feels like a day on one could equate to years in another.
Combined, these elements set up an ideal scenario for a joint venture across both games, with the integration of Final Fantasy VII into Final Fantasy XIV being particularly fitting given its MMO format allows for widespread player involvement. The upcoming character Clive from Final Fantasy XVI, who has already made an appearance in Tekken 8 alongside Final Fantasy XIV, suggests that a comparable crossover event with Final Fantasy VII – which includes time-travel in Rebirth – is entirely plausible.
