David Krumholtz Calls Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Casting “Mindblowing Privilege”

Craig Gillespie, who directed “I, Tonya” and “Cruella,” is set to release his upcoming film titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” on June 26 of next year. This will be the second film in James Gunn’s new DCU, following this year’s “Superman.” In addition to Milly Alcock (from “House of the Dragon”), who plays the lead role in “Supergirl,” we can expect her to appear on screen as well. The cast has been expanding over the past month, with notable additions such as Jason Momoa leaving the DCEU’s Aquaman role for the DCU’s Lobo. Now, David Krumholtz, known for his roles in “The Santa Clause,” “Sausage Party,” and “Harold & Kumar,” has joined the cast in a significant role.

I’m thrilled to share that I’ve recently found myself in the company of some incredible talent, as I’ve been cast alongside Emily Beecham in the upcoming series “Woman of Tomorrow.” Emily is renowned for her role in “1899,” and I can hardly contain my excitement about working with her. Initially, there was a bit of uncertainty regarding our characters, but it’s now clear that I’ll be portraying Kara Zor-El’s father – yes, you heard it right! The twist is that this isn’t just any father-daughter relationship; I’ll be playing her Kryptonian, biological father. Emily, on the other hand, will be bringing Kara’s human mother to life. It’s a role I’m eager to delve into following my recent work in “Oppenheimer.

What Did Krumholtz Say About His Newest Role?

As a movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my excitement about the latest addition to my filmography! Just like many of you, I was that kid – bursting drawers full of comics, lost in realms uncharted, visualizing myself with powers for the greater good. It’s an honor to be part of this incredible journey now.

Later, he shared some insights about his emotions on being part of Gunn’s revamped DC universe. In his own words: “Becoming a part of the DC Universe feels incredibly humbling. Portraying Zor-El in Supergirl is a significant achievement for me. My feelings of gratitude are as immense as those overflowing drawers…

It’s delightful when actors express excitement about their latest venture, as this energy often enriches their acting and positively impacts the overall production. If an actor has long admired the content, it makes the situation even more ideal.

Most recently, Krumholtz starred as the lead in the independent comedy “Lousy Carter,” alongside comedic veterans like Stephen Root from “Barry,” Martin Starr from “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” and Olivia Thirlby from “Juno.” Coming up for the actor is Scott Cooper’s highly anticipated Bruce Springsteen biopic, “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” which features Jeremy Allen White from “The Bear” as its lead. In this upcoming project, Krumholtz takes on the role of Al Teller, an executive at MCA Music Entertainment Group.

Meanwhile, though it may seem like a far-off date, June 2026 isn’t that much longer for fans to wait until they can watch the first DCU movie. Fingers crossed that Gunn’s version of Superman will be more universally appreciated than 2013’s Man of Steel, but chances are it’ll win over a lot of fans. For those eager to watch something from the DCU right now, the entire series of the outstanding Creature Commandos is available for streaming on Max. Filming for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has just begun, so things are definitely moving forward in the DCU.
