Call the Midwife's Nancy Disappears: Where Has She Gone?

In the Christmas special of Call the Midwife, things took an exciting turn for Nancy Corrigan as she found herself captivated by pharmaceutical representative Roger Noble.

In Miss Higgins’s absence, they first encountered each other at the clinic when the midwife was temporarily handling the front desk duties. As their gazes met, there was an immediate mutual attraction between them.

At first, when Roger proposed a date, Nancy came up with a reason to decline. Deep down, she was apprehensive about revealing her feelings, aiming to shield herself from possible pain and considering the welfare of her daughter Collette as well.

For such a lengthy period, it had only been the duo. Bringing another person into their world could potentially be a source of great joy or, alternatively, cause some difficulties.

In the end, she overcame her apprehensions and accepted his proposal. Despite initial obstacles such as Roger’s mother resisting their relationship, they declared their affection for each other and are now happily engaged.

The wedding is due to take place in Poplar in six months’ time.

But that wasn’t the only significant development in Nancy’s life…

In Season 12, the job offer that had been presented returned, and this occasion, the midwife chose to take it. This implies that she is now planning to depart from east London.

But you might be forgiven for thinking Nancy has already departed Nonnatus House.

In addition, actress Megan Cusack wasn’t present in episode 2, and it seems she also missed out on this past week’s episode. This has left us feeling somewhat puzzled.

Previously, Nancy was joyously marking her engagement with her dear Poplar relatives during the climax of season 14’s opening episode.

Since that time, there hasn’t been any sign of her, nor any information about her current situation or expected return date.

Previously, when asked if her character would leave the period drama, Cusack chose not to reveal anything.

She mentioned that there’s a multitude of events taking place, as Nancy finds herself juggling various responsibilities. She has a job offer, is getting engaged, and is dealing with an assertive future mother-in-law.

Currently, it’s possible that she was hinting towards Nancy’s location at the start of the series. As there are still five episodes left, it remains a mystery what writer Heidi Thomas might have planned for us to see.

If she chooses to stay in Poplar instead, it suggests that the midwife has declined the position at Netherditch Hospital for a second consecutive time. This decision could potentially lead to her relationship with Roger facing challenges, a prospect that would undoubtedly sadden Nancy. On the brighter side, this scenario might indicate that Cusack won’t be departing anytime soon, a development that fans of the series would likely appreciate.

“It’s right in the middle of my sales patch,” he said when she first told him about the role.

“You have to take it, Nancy. You’ll be nearer to me, until we get married.”

Her choice was predominantly shaped by her new romantic involvement, although having a place of her own was another appealing factor.

But is everything as it seems?

As a movie buff, I must admit I was initially charmed by Roger’s arrival in Nancy’s life. However, there were moments when a hint of skepticism crept in, as some of us wondered if his pleasant demeanor was merely an act.

Beyond just hastening swiftly, their connection seemed almost electrifying, causing some to wonder about the urgency (What’s the rush, Roger?). Moreover, complications had already arisen, making others suspect that Nancy might be a target of sorts and he could harbor secret intentions.

Regardless of whether anything significant happens or not, we can only hope that the midwife makes an appearance in the upcoming episode to provide some long-awaited news about her situation.

It seems that, given her upcoming wedding, Nancy might have requested some vacation time to focus on the wedding preparations. Alternatively, she could be spending some peaceful, private moments with her future spouse.

But if she doesn’t turn up, we might have to send out a search party…
