In every Assassin’s Creed game, there’s an element of exploration, and Shadows is no different – but Ubisoft is shaking things up by giving players more freedom. Yet, they will still offer tools like Pathfinder to make your experience smoother, as game director Charles Benoit mentioned in his latest blog post.
As a gamer exploring this stunning game world, I’ve come across some jaw-droppingly steep mountains that seem almost impossible to conquer. The rugged terrain here is like nothing I’ve seen in any other series, making it truly unique. When traversing from one place to another, it’s often smarter to stick to the roads to avoid wasting precious time on false shortcuts.
When I find myself lost, the Pathfinder tool has been a lifesaver. It’s an optional feature that can be toggled on while riding my horse, and it provides a helpful white line showing me the optimal path to reach quests, locations, or map markers. It’s not just about getting where I need to go; it adds a layer of comfort and ease to my journey.
The log where you keep track of your quests has been revamped and is now called the Objective Board, giving a clear overview of multiple stories and goals. For instance, it details the regional disputes and personal histories of Naoe and Yasuke, as well as the broader narrative that will eventually bring our two main characters together on their mission to locate specific targets.
In various settings, new boards are introduced alongside fresh characters. Each target comes with distinct tasks and hints for the players to uncover, making it an advancement of the Exploration Mode from “Assassin’s Creed Odyssey”. For those who prefer guidance, Scouts can be dispatched instead (with a higher number increasing the likelihood of success). Benoit mentioned that a “Guided option” will also be accessible as a feature to aid in tracking quest objectives.
Scouts serve multiple purposes within the game, one of which is to deactivate Provincial Alerts. This is crucial because when a province is on alert, the Guardians will chase you until the seasons change or a character switch occurs. Additionally, Scouts can transport resource caches for upgrading your Hideout. However, this task may keep a Scout occupied for an entire season. It’s important to note that Scouts regenerate after each season, but using in-game currency can expedite the process.
Beginning March 20th, the latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed series, titled Shadows, is set to release on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC platforms. Preview content will start surfacing on January 23rd, so keep an eye out for additional information and gameplay sneak peeks!
