(**WARNING: Contains spoilers for Babygirl**)
Despite it being only January, a variety of outstanding new movies have already graced UK cinema screens this year, with the provocative erotic thriller “Babygirl” generating significant buzz as one of the standouts thus far.
In the movie, Nicole Kidman delivers an exceptional leading role, portraying Romy – a successful CEO in a loveless marriage – who embarks on a forbidden relationship with a young intern in her workplace, played by Harris Dickinson.
As the movie unfolds, the precarious new romance seems poised to bring significant repercussions for both her personal life and professional endeavors. However, the storyline takes a surprising twist, concluding not in condemnation of Romy’s yearnings and indiscretion, but rather in celebration of self-acceptance.
Seen the film and need those final scenes unpacked? Read on to have the Babygirl ending explained.
Babygirl ending explained: What happens when the affair is exposed?
In their growing romance, the chance of it being discovered increases significantly, with potentially serious consequences. Eventually, Romy’s colleague Esme (played by Sophie Wilde) uncovers the secret affair and uses this information as leverage to seek a better position in the workplace.
Romy admits to Jacob (Antonio Banderas) about the affair, causing him to ask her to depart.
In due course, he reaches the shared countryside villa where an encounter with Samuel takes place. However, this meeting triggers a panic attack in him. Samuel offers assistance but subsequently chooses to depart – a decision that ultimately signifies the dissolution of his relationship with Romy as he embarks on a career opportunity in Japan.
In the climactic moments, as a film buff, I found myself captivated by two significant incidents. Initially, one of the board members, seemingly knowledgeable about the affair, subtly proposes a meeting at his residence, but I stand my ground and boldly refuse, making it clear that I am not intimidated and demand he departs.

It seems like her past experiences have enabled her to establish fresh limits with her coworkers, and she appears to have developed a sense of personal strength.
This interaction makes it clear that her assertiveness in the workplace has nothing to do with her preferences for submission during intimate moments; she can hold a dominant role professionally while still enjoying submissive experiences sexually.
Additionally, it seems that the situation has rekindled passion in Romy’s relationship with Jacob, making him more willing to satisfy her intimate needs.
The movie, in essence, portrays Romy’s infidelity in a largely impartial manner, implying that it served as a crucial trigger for significant transformations in her life.
In a sense, it ends on a positive note – Romy appears more satisfied with her career and personal life, and she’s become better at expressing and managing her needs.
