A week ago, Nintendo officially unveiled their upcoming video game console, the Nintendo Switch 2. While Nintendo’s initial announcement was somewhat brief, it did provide a sneak peek at the new system and the latest Mario Kart game. Further details will be revealed during a Nintendo Direct scheduled for April 2nd, although there are rumors that fans can expect another Nintendo presentation before then. It appears that an additional Nintendo Direct presentation is also expected in February, with a focus on games compatible with the current Switch console.
As a devoted Nintendo enthusiast, I can’t help but feel a hint of anticipation stirring in me regarding the possibility of a Nintendo Direct in February. Over the years, it has become almost routine for Nintendo to unveil their plans for the first half of the year during this annual event. While there hasn’t been any official confirmation from Nintendo yet, fans like myself are eagerly speculating about whether it will take place this year and what games might be showcased.
In a recent podcast episode, the leaker PH Brazil has fueled our excitement even further by suggesting not only a Direct next month, but also a revelation of the final significant first-party game from Nintendo for the system. This enigmatic game, according to PH Brazil, belongs to a cherished series, albeit one that is comparatively smaller in scale compared to some of Nintendo’s other franchises. In a subsequent post on Famiboards, PH Brazil clarified that this elusive game is not a remaster.
As I eagerly wait for more information, the prospect of a new entry in a beloved series has me on the edge of my seat!
During the Nintendo Switch era, many of their popular series have thrived, but some haven’t received a new installment in quite a while. Recent speculation suggests potential releases of games like Golden Sun, Chibi-Robo, or Star Fox. F-Zero is another candidate, especially given that F-Zero 99 was recently released. Although these franchises may not have the same appeal as Mario, Zelda, Metroid, or Pokemon, they would certainly spark enthusiasm among Nintendo enthusiasts. Fans have long expressed disappointment over the lack of a new Team Star Fox game on Switch, with the characters only appearing in games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Starlink: Battle for Atlas so far.
Just like any unconfirmed news, take this information with a measure of skepticism. PH Brazil is generally trustworthy, but predictions about Nintendo’s plans for the final phase of the Switch are uncertain. At present, we’re in the dark about many things, and an upcoming Nintendo Direct would be an excellent opportunity to clarify the company’s future moves.
The game Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, rumored to launch on the current Switch this year, lacks a specific release date, and since our last glimpse was back in summer 2021, it’s speculated that the game might be designed for both the upcoming Switch 2 and the existing console. Alternatively, it could potentially debut prior to the new system’s launch.
If a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for February, it’s probable that it will occur within the early part of the month. The upcoming Pokemon Presents on February 27th may emphasize Pokemon Legends: Z-A, another significant Switch game slated for release in 2025. By scheduling their announcements this way, both companies could ensure a more even distribution of news, so we might hear something about the Direct quite soon.
