The White House staff wastes no time.
The January 20th Presidential Inauguration brings a unique brand of order amidst chaos – as the White House staff swiftly transfer power from Joe Biden to Donald Trump within just a few hours. This meticulously planned transition will take place behind private curtains, coinciding with Trump’s swearing-in ceremony along with his vice president J.D. Vance at the Rotunda of the United States Capitol. Interestingly, it was here that former President Ronald Reagan also held his 1985 inauguration due to bad weather conditions.
Gary Walters, former White House chief usher, informed ABC News that it takes around five to five-and-a-half hours for the preparations after they exit the North Portico. He added that over 100 people are involved in these tasks, each with a unique role. Moreover, not only does the House need to be readied, but also the West Wing and particularly the Oval Office of the President, which undergoes a transformation during this period.
The changeover has been carefully orchestrated for a smooth execution, allowing the 47th president and his wife, Melania Trump, to dive straight into their duties.
The goal of the residence staff is to ensure that the president and first lady find their home ready when they arrive from the Pennsylvania Avenue reviewing stand. Their preferred snacks are already in the kitchen, neatly arranged where they usually expect them. No boxes remain unopened; instead, everything is prearranged and set up beforehand. Upon entering, they will not encounter any unpacked boxes or excess storage items lying around.
Of course, the Trumps have had plenty of experience with living at the White House, as they resided there during Donald Trump’s first term from 2017 to 2021. In fact, Melania herself anticipated a seamless move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue this time.
In a recent chat with Fox & Friends, here I am, absolutely smitten, gleefully admitting that my first foray was a tough nut to crack. However, this time around, I’m brimming with confidence! I’ve got the blueprints, the keys even, it feels like home already. In fact, I’ve already packed up and am ready to move in at a moment’s notice!
Additionally, it was announced that the First Lady will reside in the White House, but Melania mentioned she intends to periodically return to New York City to support her son, Barron Trump, during his academic journey at New York University’s Stern School of Business.
She clarified, “Whenever it’s necessary for me to be in New York, that’s where I’ll be. Similarly, when I need to be in Palm Beach, I’ll be there too.
Ultimately, Melania emphasized that her roles as a mother, First Lady, and wife are most important to her. However, once she assumes office on January 20th, she will prioritize serving the nation.
