Currently, some users might encounter trouble sending emails via Outlook, due to a bug that specifically affects the traditional Outlook version (Version 2412 or Build 18324.20168). Fortunately, Microsoft is working on a solution and in the meantime, you can resolve the issue temporarily by downgrading classic Outlook to an earlier version.
The new Outlook is unaffected by the issue, so only those on classic Outlook may run into problems.
In a help document, Microsoft clarifies the problem at hand and guides you on verifying whether this glitch impacts your system.
As a passionate user, I’ve encountered an issue with my beloved Outlook after upgrading to Version 2412 (Build 18324.20168). Sometimes, it unexpectedly crashes while attempting to start a new email or when responding to or forwarding an existing one.
To determine if this is the problem, you can check the Windows Event Viewer Application Log for crash events 1000 or 1001 and look for these specific event details:
– Application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 16.0.18324.20168
– Time stamp: 0x677828da
– Exception code: 0xc0000005
– Fault offset: 0x0000000001a7c02a
– Process ID: 0x0xFD0
– Application start time: 0x0x1DB65D0FD0B9857
– Application path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE
– Module path: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\OUTLOOK.EXE
These details should help you identify the issue related to Microsoft Outlook version 16.0.18324.20168.
The solution for this problem will become available later this month, specifically on January 28, 2025. Microsoft has announced that they will release a new build without the bug on that date. Additionally, they have provided suggestions to address the issue temporarily by reverting back to an older version of classic Outlook.
- Open a Command Prompt in Administrator context.
- Type or paste the two commands into the Command Prompt window and press Enter after each:cd %programfiles%\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\ClickToRunofficec2rclient.exe /update user updatetoversion=16.0.18227.20162
- To prevent Office updating back to the latest build you can turn off updates by selecting File > Office Account > Update Options > Disable Updates.
- Put a reminder on your calendar for February 11th to re-enable updates. Or, check back on this Known Issue in case it is addressed sooner.
