The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Protagonist Helps Studio Write a Different Kind of Game

Discussing the forthcoming RPG “The Blood of Dawnwalker,” its director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz discussed the unique narrative Rebel Wolves aims to create through the game. In an interview with PCGamer, Tomaszkiewicz elaborated on the protagonist Coen and his role in telling a fresh kind of story.

During the interview, Tomaszkiewicz discussed Coen as a unique form of vampire, not as powerful as characters like a superhero. Instead, Coen is depicted as relying on his intelligence and combat skills to endure rather than being overly powerful.

Tomaszkiewicz explains that he desired to create a game featuring a character unlike traditional superheroes seen in Marvel movies. He found it challenging to craft stories around characters who merely grew stronger and stronger. Instead, he sought an earthbound hero with unique problem-solving abilities. Yet, he also wished to offer players the experience of being a superhero.

In The Blood of Dawnwalker, Coen will find himself temporarily devoid of his vampiric capabilities throughout the game. However, he’ll be capable of utilizing his vampire powers only during nighttime hours. During the day, he’ll experience all the vulnerabilities that come with being human.

He shared that he crafted a character who functions as a human during the day, with all the vulnerabilities typical of any human. But at night, this figure transforms into a vampire, gaining strength, speed, and extraordinary abilities. This dual nature of the hero is reminiscent of characters like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a concept familiar in pop culture yet unexplored in games. This added dimension could potentially add an intriguing layer to these fictional worlds, as no one has attempted this before. We’ll have to wait and see how it is received.

In the realm of The Blood of Dawnwalker, the studio has hinted that the magical elements might not be as flamboyant as typically found in fantasy games. Instead, the magic system revolves around control and conjuring, rather than conventional spells like fireballs or lightning bolts.

This idea aligns with the studio’s earlier statement suggesting that Coen won’t be an excessively powerful protagonist. During a Twitch broadcast, Tomaszkiewicz initially hinted at this, revealing that instead of being a superhero, Coen is more like a young man who can get emotionally affected at times. Tomaszkiewicz finds it enjoyable to develop and craft the character of Coen.

The game titled “The Blood of Dawnwalker” is scheduled to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. At this point, a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet. In the interim, take a look at the character description for Coen that the studio has shared earlier. Additionally, it’s worth mentioning that the game’s narrative time limit will not impede players who wish to delve deeper into the world and complete additional side-missions.
