Sunrise Studios recently released a sneak peek for the upcoming “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX” anime, showcasing clips directly from the “-Beginning-” movie. The “-Beginning-” is a recap film that combines the first three episodes of the series, acting as a precursor to the main TV show. As of now, there’s no confirmed release date for “Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX”, with fans anticipating its premiere in the early part of 2025. The latest teaser offers insights into the series, such as updated designs for traditional Gundam robots and the unexpected return of a beloved character from earlier Gundam anime series.
Spoiler Warning for Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX Character Details!
The debut of the -Beginning- has taken place in Japan, with a North American launch set for February 28. Details about Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX have leaked online, revealing that a significant character from the original Mobile Suit Gundam series is back. The latest promotional video concludes with the dramatic entrance of Char Aznable, also known as the Red Comet in classic Gundam and Amuro Ray’s main adversary. Although fans have anticipated Char’s return, the compilation film and promo video provide evidence that he will be a part of the new animation series. Unlike other traditional mecha and characters redesigned by Studio Khara, Char maintains his original look from Gundam Origins, which closely mirrors his appearance in the original series.
Who is Char and What is his Role in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX
Char, born to a prominent political figure hailing from the space colonies who advocated for harmony between the colonies and Earth, was tragically killed by the Zabi family. In response, Char assumed a new persona and joined the ranks of the Zeon Republic with the intention of eliminating every member of the Zabi dynasty as retribution. As the top mecha pilot in the Zeon military, he sought revenge.
In the storyline where Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX deviates from the original series is the exclusion of Amuro Ray, the lead character in Mobile Suit Gundam. As a solider for the Earth Federation, Amuro was the only one who could match Char’s speed and skill in the advanced Gundam mecha. Unlike in the original series, Amuro does not take control of the Gundam in Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, enabling Char to seize the Gundam machine from the federation. With this newfound possession, Char uses the Gundam to lead the Zeon forces to victory and repaints it with his signature red coloring, renaming it the Red Gundam. Despite Char’s change in circumstances, his underlying goal of eliminating the Zabi family remains unchanged. However, five years before the events of the series, Char mysteriously vanishes, leaving his Red Gundam behind for a young boy named Shuji to discover and possibly utilize.
What Does Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX for the Future of the Franchise?
In simpler terms, most Gundam series after the original four series and first two movies have their own unique stories set in different worlds (or alternate universes). Each of these worlds has a specific name to distinguish them from one another, with the original timeline being called Universal Century. The upcoming series, Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX, is special because it takes place in an alternative version of the same world as a previously established timeline (Universal Century), rather than a completely new universe. In other words, you could say that Gundam GQuuuuuuX is more like a spin-off or variation of the Universal Century timeline.
It’s worth mentioning that many fans and hints from the series suggest that all mainline Gundam shows occur in the same universe, but at various points in time. If Gundam GQuuuuuuX is an alternate version of a known timeline, it wouldn’t align with the others. However, because the creators of Evangelion are also working on Gundam GQuuuuuuX, there might be a complex concept tying this new anime to the broader Gundam lore.
