In the time of the Game Boy Advance, numerous timeless games saw their debut, many eventually being re-released on later systems. However, not all games have had such good fortune; some rare gems require a significant financial investment for enthusiastic gamers who wish to enjoy them. Ninja Five-O is one of these obscure titles, and the price tag on the secondary market is quite astounding – even loose copies can fetch hundreds of dollars, while sealed or graded versions command over $1,000. Fortunately, an affordable alternative is in sight, as Ninja Five-O will soon be making its way to contemporary platforms.
Approximately a year after being announced for contemporary systems, Konami has ultimately fixed a release date for the much-anticipated title “Ninja Five-O” on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC. The game is scheduled to launch digitally on February 25th. Pre-purchasing the game is now possible, with the price set at $24.99. Players can expect an accurate replica of the original Game Boy Advance game, along with some exciting enhancements such as a time trial mode, the ability to save and load at any moment, and a rewind function.
Although some gaming enthusiasts might opt for the authentic version, it’s wonderful that a larger group can enjoy the excitement of Ninja Five-O without straining their budget. The Game Boy Advance edition came out in 2003 and garnered positive reviews from critics then. It will be intriguing to observe how contemporary gamers respond to Ninja Five-O after twenty years, but we won’t have long to discover their opinions.
For those new to the game, “Ninja Five-O” places you in the character of Joe Osugi, who is both a ninja and a detective (also known as “Ninja Cop” in Europe). Based in Zipangu city, Joe’s mission is to thwart terrorists under the control of the enigmatic “Mad Masks.” Throughout his journey, Joe will need to defeat the Mad Masks and safeguard innocent civilians they have kidnapped. The game consists of five missions, split across three levels and a confrontation with a Mad Mask boss.
Looking forward to the upcoming release of Ninja Five-O next month, it’s intriguing to contemplate if additional Game Boy Advance (GBA) titles might receive similar re-releases. Despite the passage of time, the GBA continues to hold a special place in fans’ hearts, largely because of its extensive library. While Nintendo has made many of their own GBA games accessible on the Switch, most third-party games have yet to see a second release. Potential candidates for re-release could include popular titles like Sonic Advance, Gunstar Super Heroes, and Astro Boy: Omega Factor. However, we’ll have to stay tuned to find out which other games might be revived in the future.
