Amazing

Rebecca Yarros is giving the BookTok community the update they’ve been waiting for.

In my enthusiasm as I unveiled my recent work, the captivating fantasy romance novel titled “Onyx Storm” – the third gem in my cherished “Empyrean book series” – I couldn’t help but share enticing insights about the impending television adaptation of my 2023 bestseller, “The Fourth Wing.

At an Onyx Storm launch event in Los Angeles on January 20th, she shared with fans, “I’ve gone through two drafts of the script now, and let me tell you, it’s incredible!” (as reported in a TikTok post)

Initially holding back some reservations, Rebecca, aged 43, found herself brimming with anticipation for the television adaptation of The Fourth Wing, a production by Amazon MGM Studios and Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society. However, she had initially felt apprehensive about this project.

She admitted that she was extremely anxious to read it since, when someone takes your child and asks for opinions on what’s essential within, it feels as though every single part is crucial to you.

Indeed, the author was thrilled by what she had witnessed so far, praising showrunner Moira Walley-Beckett – known for her work on shows like Breaking Bad and Anne with an E – for successfully breathing life into the text.

She expressed her excitement by continuously kicking her feet, saying something like, ‘I adore it!'” or “She was thrilled as she kicked her feet, saying, ‘Moira has done an outstanding job in capturing each character’s voice, the dialogue you all cherish, and the book’s unique energy.’

Rebecca added, “I could not be any happier. Like, she’s amazing.”

Earlier discussions revolved around potential castings for the show, with the author mentioning that she only has a small say in this area. Additionally, she clarified that she intentionally avoids stoking fan speculations by keeping her personal casting choices private.

As soon as I reveal my guess about the character, that’s exactly who people will agree with, and only that person they’ll accept,” Rebecca shared during a fan Q&A in October. “I secretly wish they discover a new talented generation instead.

What’s Got Us Pumped: Robert Pattinson shines most when he can get a touch of the bizarre. Plus, Bong Joon Ho’s take on this is intriguing, offering at least 18 instances of the Twilight veteran as a space colonist, who embarks on missions that should result in his demise—yet his body regenerates after each death. However, there’s one occasion where one of his alternate selves miraculously survives and reappears to confront the latest version of himself.

This time around, Daniel Cleaver is very much alive and back in the picture, adding spice to Bridget’s life as a single mom of two following Mark Darcy’s demise. Although Firth’s character seems to make ghostly appearances in the trailer, we can still look forward to seeing him on screen. Intriguingly, Bridget finds herself torn between two new romantic prospects: Woodall’s charming young man and Ejiofor, who plays her son’s captivating teacher. It looks like we might need to book our seats early!

We’re thrilled because: Two key words: Intelligence-driven Thriller. The third installment, consisting of 11 episodes, might unveil which Fisher brother is destined for Belly. We’re Thrilled: The upcoming fourth film in the popular horror series marks the return of an original cast member after over two decades. This new movie is a continuation of the 1998 sequel, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.” It tells the story of a fresh group of teenagers who are haunted by events from their past. However, with Prinze reprising his role as Ray Bronson and rumors that Jennifer Love Hewitt may return as Julie James, this new generation might just survive the terror. Needless to say, we have our plans set for summer entertainment.

What’s Got Us Pumped: Jackson Lamb and his unconventional team of MI-5 misfits from Slough House are back in action! This time they’re tasked with shielding the prime minister from various dangers, all while dealing with a personal threat within their own ranks. However, remember that we’re referring to the Slow Horses – expect some bungled operations, Lamb indulging in questionable treats, and hopefully, minimal losses.

Header: Based On: E. Lockhart’s 2014 YA novel

As a lifestyle guru, I’m thrilled to highlight an engaging ensemble cast in this upcoming production: Yours truly, Emily Alyn Lind, Subham Maheshwari, Esther McGregor, Joseph Zada, Mamie Gummer, Candice King, and Rahul Kohli. These talented individuals are set to captivate audiences with their performances!

Premieres: TBD on Prime Video

What We’re Looking Forward To: This young adult thriller gained significant attention on social media even before BookTok influenced must-read lists. The reason for its popularity lies in its narrative about wealthy teenager Cadence Sinclair, who returns to her family’s private island after a two-year amnesia spell following an accident. Upon her arrival at the island, memories of the summer that altered her life forever begin resurfacing—and the surprises don’t stop there. Additionally, the book “Family of Liars” is set for adaptation too, implying that our journey with the Sinclair family is just getting underway.

Based On: Stephen King’s 1982 novel (writing as Richard Bachman)

Featuring: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, and William H. Macy

The principal cast includes: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Lee Pace, Katy O’Brian, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, and William H. Macy.

Premieres: In theaters Nov. 21

Reason for our Anticipation: The run of Glen Powell is not slowing down! The lead from “Hit Man” is now stepping into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s shoes for the remake, where he embarks on a survival journey in a game show that rewards contestants by chasing them around the globe with lethal “Hunters.” Adding an eerie twist, the movie, like its release date, is set in the near future of 2025. We’re all-in for this thrilling ride – although, truth be told, we’re a bit apprehensive too!

According to its title and the novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West” by Gregory Maguire, the Broadway play is making a comeback with an impressive cast including Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Jonathan Bailey, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Marissa Bode, Peter Dinklage, Bowen Yang, and Keala Settle. The second part premieres on November 21st, and we’re eagerly anticipating it because of the extraordinary cast and the fact that it’s a split adaptation of the popular Broadway musical based on the Wizard of Oz prequel book.

Based On: The 2020 book of the same name by Richard Osman

Featuring: Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, and Jonathan Pryce

Or in a conversational style: This movie has an impressive cast including Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley, Celia Imrie, David Tennant, Naomi Ackie, and Jonathan Pryce.

Premieres: TBD 2025 on Netflix

What Makes Us Thrilled: The books, which focus on a group of four retired individuals with a knack for crime-solving, are truly charming. With such an intriguing cast, we’re looking forward to experiencing a captivating mystery that will stand the test of time.

Based On: Liz Moore’s 2020 novel

Starring: Amanda SeyfriedNicholas Pinnock and Ashleigh Cummings

Premieres: TBD on Peacock

What’s Got Us Pumped: Seyfried makes her comeback on the small screen with a Philadelphia-based drama centered around a police officer in search of her missing sister, amidst a series of murders in their opioid-plagued community. With its ominous and brooding tone, this show seems poised to keep us gripped throughout its tense and suspenseful run.

Based On: Ruth Ware’s 2016 novel of the same name

Featuring: Keira Knightley, Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, Daniel Ings, Kaya Scodelario, David Adala, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw

or

This film includes performances by Keira Knightley, Guy Pearce, Hannah Waddingham, Daniel Ings, Kaya Scodelario, David Adala, and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Premieres: TBD on Netflix

What We’re Eager About: Experiencing being stranded on a cruise ship is terrifying for most people, but it becomes even more horrifying when you see someone thrown overboard and your warnings are dismissed. This is the predicament that Knightley finds herself in as she navigates the Netflix adaptation of one of Ware’s earlier suspenseful novels, which is filled with peril.

Derived From: The 2021 novel by Emily Henry, titled the same as the movie
Cast Members: Tom Blyth, Emily Bader, Lucian Laviscount, Jameela Jamil, Lukas Gage, and Sarah Catherine Hook.

Premieres: TBD on Netflix

Why I’m Thrilled: Henry has been making waves in women’s literature for quite some time now, so it was only a matter of anticipation before her novels found their way onto the big screen. With impressive performances in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and My Lady Jane, respectively, Blyth and Bader have demonstrated that they might be the ideal choices for Alex and Poppy.

This exciting new series, titled “Scarpetta” (as per Patricia Cornwell’s popular book series), boasts a star-studded cast including Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ariana DeBose, Bobby Cannavale, Simon Baker, and Jake Cannavale. The release date on Amazon Prime Video is yet to be determined. With Kidman’s captivating performances in shows like “Big Little Lies,” “Nine Perfect Strangers,” and “The Undoing” (and her second appearance on this list), coupled with the fact that the talented ensemble will portray crime-fighting sisters, it’s no surprise that this series has already claimed our top spot for the year.

Based On: Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 gothic horror

Starring: Jacob ElordiOscar IsaacMia Goth and Christoph Waltz

Premieres: TBD 2025 on Netflix

We’re thrilled about this: Seeing Isaac in the role of Victor Frankenstein and Elordi as the monster promises an exciting experience already. However, what truly gets us pumped is that Guillermo Del Toro, who has consistently shown a mastery over gothic horror, will be bringing his unique vision to life on Netflix after almost two decades. This alone sets this adaptation apart from others based on the classic novel.

Based On: An Offer From A Gentleman

The main cast includes: Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha, Jonathan Bailey, Claudia Jessie, Nicola Coughlan, Luke Newton, Adjoa Andoh, Ruth Gemmell, Katie Leung, Michelle Mao, and Isabella Wei.

Release Date: TBD on Netflix

Reason for Our Anticipation: After three seasons of striving to establish a place in his family and self-discovery, beloved character Benedict Bridgerton finally encounters love in the upcoming season. Furthermore, newcomer Ha will be joining the expanding cast of Netflix’s hit series as his romantic interest, Sophie Baek.

Based on: Alice Feeney’s 2020 Novel

Featuring: Tessa Thompson, Jon Bernthal, Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, and Rebecca Rittenhouse in the lead roles

Or simply:
Lead actors include: Tessa Thompson, Jon Bernthal, Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, and Rebecca Rittenhouse.

Premieres: TBD on Netflix

What Makes Us Eager: A gripping thriller that lures a solitary character back to their roots is irresistible, and in this mini-series, it’s the character Anna played by Thompson who returns after a murder piques the interest of a local detective (recent Emmy winner Bernthal), who is also probing the case.

Based on: Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel

Release Date: February 13, 2026

Starring: Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie

Reason for Anticipation: Time to crank up the timeless tune by Kate Bush, as we’re returning to the moorlands! Filmmaker Emerald Fennell is reuniting with her Saltburn team – Joseph Elordi took on a role and Robbie played producer – to bring us a fresh perspective on Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff that has likely never been shown before.

Based On: Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name

Starring: Ryan GoslingSandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub

Release Date: March 20, 2026

What’s Got Us Pumped: Gosling has already ventured into space as the first man, but his new adventure transports him beyond our galaxy. After waking up from a coma, he finds himself as the lone survivor of an expedition to the Tau Ceti solar system—an impressive 12 light-years distant from Earth. The stakes are raised when he must carry on with his mission to counteract solar dimming and prevent the extinction of humanity. No big deal!

Based On: Suzanne Collins’ forthcoming book of the same name

Starring: TBD
Premieres: November 20, 2026

Reason for our enthusiasm: On the same day it was announced that Collins’ next trip to Panem would take place (the book is set for release in March 2025), Lionsgate officially confirmed they will be adapting the eagerly awaited tale centered around a young Haymitch Abernathy – the troubled mentor of Peeta and Katniss from the 74th Hunger Games – during his victory in the 50th Games.

Based On: Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel

Starring: Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Michele Marrone

What Makes Us Eager: The lineup of actors makes us eager to watch this adaptation, as it focuses on a maid joining a wealthy family that hides some dark secrets. However, with Paul Feig, who has previously worked on intricate stories like A Simple Favor and its upcoming sequel, taking charge, we can expect an exhilarating journey ahead.

Based on: The 2021 book by Colleen Hoover

Starring: Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett

Premieres: TBD

What Gets Us Pumped Up: First off, let’s focus on Anne, Dakota, and Josh. The story revolves around a writer in trouble who takes over a popular series following the author’s unexpected accident. This book promises to be a thrilling, tangled journey. And with this talented group starring in the movie adaptation, it only makes the anticipation even greater.

Based on: Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel
Starring: Elle FanningMichelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman

Premieres: The release date for this captivating series is yet to be announced, but it’s airing on Apple TV+.
Why we’re Obsessed: As an ardent fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! With the enigmatic Nicole Kidman set to grace our screens, this limited series promises to be nothing short of extraordinary. The source material, Thorpe’s enthralling book about a former Hooters waitress and pro-wrestler’s daughter who turned to OnlyFans after finding herself a single mom at 20, is already a gripping read. But with Kidman on board, this eight-episode series has catapulted straight to the top of my must-watch list!
