Filmmaker Robert Eggers gained recognition for unique movie experiences such as “The Witch,” “The Lighthouse,” and “The Northman.” Last year’s “Nosferatu” was his most significant triumph, garnering widespread acclaim from both viewers and critics. Given the film’s success, it sparked numerous prospects for Eggers, leading to rumors that he might be working on a fresh interpretation of the iconic movie, “Labyrinth.” Eggers has acknowledged these rumors, mentioning that he has several projects in various stages of development. However, it seems an original story will be his next focus. “Nosferatu” is currently available for digital streaming and will be released on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on February 18th.
When ComicBook inquired about rumors of a new “Labyrinth” production, Eggers affirmed, “Actually, I frequently have numerous projects in progress to ensure my survival within this industry and unpredictability of future successes. However, the next film I intend to produce will be an original work.
In Hollywood, it’s common for studios to try to incorporate a filmmaker’s unique style into big franchises if they find success in a particular genre. Since Eggers has expressed hesitation about working on franchises like Star Wars or the Marvel Universe, Labyrinth might be the closest he comes to a well-known property, given that he has already reimagined Nosferatu.
In a different phrasing: The classic film “Labyrinth” featured Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, with Jim Henson serving as the director. The story revolves around Sarah (played by Connelly) who embarks on a quest through the eponymous labyrinth to save her baby brother from the Goblin King (Bowie). Throughout this journey, she encounters strange, magical, and eerie characters. Similar to other 80s films for children, it contained several intense and distressing scenes that have left an impact on viewers.
In the meantime, eager fans of a potential new Labyrinth can delve into Nosferatu, a chilling story about an obsessive relationship between a haunted young woman and a vampire who finds her irresistible, leaving destruction in its path. Featuring Bill Skarsgård (IT series, Barbarian), Lily-Rose Depp (The Idol, The King), Nicholas Hoult (Renfield, The Menu), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Nocturnal Animals, Bullet Train), Emma Corrin (Deadpool & Wolverine, The Crown), and Willem Dafoe (The Northman, The Lighthouse).
I’m thrilled to announce that as of now, you can catch the classic film “Nosferatu” on Digital platforms! If you prefer physical copies, mark your calendars for February 18th when it arrives in stunning 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. Keep an eye out for future news about a potential revival of another beloved tale, “Labyrinth”. Stay tuned!
