In just a few weeks, we’ll be diving into Season 3 of “The Wheel of Time“, and Amazon MGM Studios has shared some tantalizing previews! New cast members, stunning locations, and intriguing glimpses into what lies ahead are all revealed. With an extensive cast already in place, much like the books it’s adapted from, 10 new faces will be joining us for Season 3. Many of these fresh faces can be seen in the photos released today, accompanied by thrilling hints about our beloved characters’ future paths. We might even witness some cherished scenes that were absent in earlier seasons, popping up unexpectedly here!
In its journey, “The Wheel of Time” faces a challenging climb – adapting a 15-book series penned by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, with only eight episodes per season, while grappling with some significant hurdles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic upon its debut. Despite certain concerns among fans regarding various aspects of the series, there’s general agreement that the acting and casting have been exceptional. This positive feedback is a promising sign for Season 3 and the fresh faces we spot in these images. Dive in to catch first glimpses and learn about what unfolds in each one.
Aiel
As a movie enthusiast, I’m eagerly diving into the expanses of the Aiel Waste with Rand (Josha Stradowski), Moiraine (Rosamund Pike), and Lan (Daniel Henney). Joined by fresh faces such as the enigmatic Wise Ones Bair (Nukâka Coster-Waldau) and Melaine (Salóme Gunnarsdóttir), under the watchful eye of their clan chief Rhuarc (Björn Landberg). The anticipation builds as we delve deeper into this desolate yet captivating landscape, further exploring the rich tapestry that is Aiel culture. These characters have already left a lasting impression on me and witnessing those formidable spears adorning their backs never fails to exhilarate.
Elaida
As a passionate moviegoer, I was thrilled when Shohreh Aghdashloo made her debut as Elaida a’Roihan. Fans, including myself, had been eagerly advocating for this casting choice on social media for quite some time. Now, standing beside her is the captivating Olivia Williams, donning her regal attire as Queen Morgase Trakand. Both actresses have showcased their mastery of power and presence in series like The Expanse and Dune: Prophecy, making them more than capable for this role they’ve taken on here.
In the trailers for Season 3, there are some fresh cast members who don’t appear in these photos, including Callum Kerr as Galad Trakand and Isabella Bucceri as Faiel Bashere. However, our brief encounters with them have been fleeting.
Accepted
Coming up is an impressive scene featuring Elayne (Ceara Coveney), Egwene (Madeleine Madden), and Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) riding horses together, a sight that will undoubtedly thrill fans. The trailer has given us a glimpse of what’s to come for these three at the White Tower, but it’s refreshing to see them outside as well. Their ornate attire suggests they might be learning to wield authority like true Aes Sedai, and their clothing colors are worth pondering too.
Elayne and Aviendha
In a scene that’s bound to catch attention, Elayne is seen enjoying a beverage with Aviendha (Ayoola Smart), and there’s an undeniable air of appraisal between them. Throughout this series, their dynamics have been complex, with the novels limiting their shared moments – particularly at this early stage. This encounter could potentially set the stage for future developments.
Training
In this image, we may be witnessing a moment from seasons 1 and 2 that fans have longed for – Lan teaching Rand how to master the sword. It would have been fascinating to watch their relationship develop earlier as master and apprentice, and the training on a tower top in the north was a memorable scene in the books. This breathtaking view could be filling that gap, and it’s delightful to observe them performing the intricate poses and moves detailed by Jordan in his writing.
Moiraine
Ahead of Moiraine lies a challenging path, and this image encapsulates her resilient spirit as she navigates through it. In the trailer, we noticed her manipulating the One Power around a similar orb, indicating its significance in the ensuing narrative.
Mat
Once again, it’s Mat Cauthon (Dónal Finn) who manages to lighten the mood and add a touch of humor. The scene featuring him in vibrant attire alongside Nynaeve and Min (Kae Alexander) suggests a leisurely stay in town, at least on the surface. However, when suspicious characters are seen exchanging cloth-wrapped packages with Mat, it’s a clear indication that trouble may be brewing.
Siuan Sanche
In theory, Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), often referred to as the Amerlin Seat herself, is expected to possess the most mastery over the One Power among all Aes Sedai. This depiction seemingly supports this idea. As the story unfolds, her role is likely to become increasingly significant, bringing joy to many fans who admire both her character and Moiraine.
Lanfear
In the third season of “The Wheel of Time,” the series’ most formidable antagonist, Lanfear, reappears with a fresh hairdo and her signature mischievous grin. Given her prominence in the trailer, it remains uncertain as to her location or intentions in this particular scene. Based on online discussions among fans, there seems to be an intense effort underway to decipher her storyline.
Old Friends
In conclusion, fans will undoubtedly appreciate this relaxed image featuring Rand, Perrin (played by Marcus Rutherford), and Mat in a non-catastrophic atmosphere. This show is known for its brighter and more optimistic tone compared to modern fantasy series like Game of Thrones, so it’s reassuring to know that lighter scenes are still to come.
The third season of ‘The Wheel of Time’ will start streaming on Prime Video on March 13th, 2025. You can already watch the first two seasons on the same platform. The entire series of books is currently available in print, e-book, and audiobook formats.
