For approximately fourteen hours, I observed the suspension of TikTok in North America, a period during which this popular social media video platform narrowly avoided being erased from the Western landscape. Simultaneously, numerous games were also removed from circulation, with the most notable casualty being Marvel Snap – a mobile game that rapidly amassed a considerable fanbase by allowing players to collect cards featuring their favorite Marvel characters. Initially, it may have gone unnoticed, but another anime-themed mobile game suffered a similar fate as Marvel Snap. However, with the reprieve TikTok and associated Chinese companies received in the U.S., this once-banished game was able to resurface.
The game at issue, initially prohibited, was “One-Punch Man: The Strongest,” a free-to-play, turn-based role-playing game featuring characters from the popular anime series. Launched in 2019, the game continually expanded its cast of heroes and villains. Due to TikTok’s swift return following the ban, so too did One-Punch Man’s mobile game make a comeback. The app centered around Saitama is owned by Shanghai Moonton Technology, which itself falls under ByteDance’s control. In contrast, Marvel Snap’s card game was developed by Nuverse but remained under the ByteDance umbrella, leading to its ban.

Will One-Punch Man Remain The Strongest?
Regrettably, the resurgence of TikTok and Bytedance might be short-lived, as they were only given a temporary stay of seventy-five days following the ban’s lifting. Upon their reappearance, they informed their users about their return with a message saying, “Welcome back to TikTok! We’re here again.
TikTok is currently working with its service providers to reinstate the app, thanks to President Trump’s clear guidance and assurance that these providers won’t be penalized for offering TikTok to more than 170 million Americans. This also allows over 7 million small businesses to continue flourishing. This move supports the First Amendment and resists arbitrary censorship. We are collaborating with President Trump on a lasting solution that ensures TikTok remains operational within the U.S.
