One of the multiple games highlighted during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event was “South of Midnight,” which displayed fresh gameplay clips and ultimately disclosed its specific launch date.
In the land that lies south of midnight, players take on the role of 19-year old protagonist Hazel, who finds herself in a mysterious, enchanted world. Endowed with the abilities of a Weaver, she must navigate this realm to solve various riddles. Her powers enable her not only to mend the wounded creatures but also to heal the environment around her. A talking fish serves as a wise mentor, guiding Hazel on her transformative adventure.
In terms of gameplay, Hazel is designed to move swiftly and nimbly. She’s not just limited to using platforming and parkour techniques to travel through the environment; she can also summon a range of items to help her maneuver her surroundings.
In battles, she’ll encounter numerous diverse adversaries, employing her tools and talents to tailor her approach for each enemy’s unique powers and vulnerabilities. Mastering magical abilities, blending your distinct skills, and timing your attacks and maneuvers effectively will be crucial. As the game advances, you’ll unlock new moves, thanks to the progression system built into the game.
In the southern regions beyond midnight, players will embark on an exploration journey through diverse landscapes. As Hazel delves deeper, she’ll encounter remnants that offer insights into the mysterious creatures who are her main objectives. Upon discovering their tragic pasts and understanding how they came to be corrupted, at the conclusion of each stage, you’ll confront these monsters in epic boss fights. Each creature is influenced by the lore of the South.
On April 8th, “South of Midnight” is set to debut on Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Game Pass. Take a look at the latest story trailer for this thrilling action-adventure game below.
