Previously scheduled for release on February 14th, Assassin’s Creed Shadow experienced a second delay, causing it to be moved to a new launch date of March 20th.
What caused the unexpected postponement of the open-world game, as per director Charles Benoit, was primarily due to its complex parkour system.
Benoit shared with IGN: “Japanese architecture is incredibly intricate – possibly the most complex structures I’ve ever dealt with, when considering Odyssey and Syndicate. We had to create unique codes and animations to handle something so seamless, smoothly transitioning parkour movements to make them even more fluid.
The director went on to say, ‘That was one piece of feedback we received that we felt needed attention, and I must say, it has significantly improved over the past few months.’ Sounds great to me!
In fact, the latest Assassin’s Creed titles that exhibit RPG elements – Origins, Odyssey, and particularly Valhalla – have significantly deviated from the series’ original parkour systems, leaving some longtime fans disappointed, as they were avid players since the era of Ezio.
It’s encouraging to learn that Shadows is returning to its origins, particularly in terms of traversing buildings through parkour. The developers seem keen on perfecting this feature, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that the delay has given them the time needed to meet their objectives.
As a thrilled admirer, I can confidently say that my brief immersion into Assassin’s Creed Shadows at the preview event has left me eagerly anticipating its full release. The game’s protagonist, Naoe, is remarkably agile, sporting an array of innovative climbing, running, and jumping movements, which aligns perfectly with Benoit’s observations.
