As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been keeping an eye on the rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro. It seems that Sony is quietly addressing what appears to be a significant issue with this premium console, which was released on November 7, 2024, at a hefty price tag of $700. Frankly, I’ve been left wanting for more high-quality games that truly leverage the power of such an expensive machine.
Intriguingly, there have been reports suggesting that some games run worse on PS5 Pro compared to the original PS5, and this is allegedly due to a problem with the PS5 Pro: PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR). This feature was supposed to set the PS5 Pro apart, but so far, it hasn’t lived up to expectations. Hopefully, Sony will iron out these kinks and deliver the superior gaming experience that we all expect from a next-gen console like the PS5 Pro.
On PlayStation 5, notable titles like Silent Hill 2 Remake, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and others have faced significant performance problems, including noticeable shimmering. These issues are frequently linked to the PS5’s Backward Compatibility mode known as PSSR (PlayStation 5 Streaming Restore).
According to the developer involved in creating Truck Driver: The American Dream, PlayStation has indeed launched several variants of the PlayStation Streaming Service (PSSR), which suggests that they have been secretly developing this functionality. They’ve also been addressing any problems associated with it.
According to the developer, there have been several iterations of PSSR previously. In the upcoming 0.20 update of the game I’m working on, we will be adopting the most recent version of PSSR, along with enhancements to our Real-Time Rendering hardware implementation.
It’s yet unclear how significantly the PlayStation has upgraded PSSR, given the delay in releases due to technical issues and a recent decrease in the number of PS5 Pro-enhanced games. However, it’s plausible that these problems have been ironed out. The lack of new games could merely be due to a temporary pause in production rather than an indication of ongoing difficulties.
Regardless of any circumstances, it’s evident that PlayStation is focusing on addressing the issues with PSSR (PlayStation Store), as this is crucial for rebuilding trust in the system, especially since there are significant releases planned for this year that will challenge the capabilities of both the PS5 and PS5 Pro, including Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and GTA 6. For Sony, it’s essential that the PS5 Pro delivers a superior product without any glitches, or else it might face difficulties selling the console this year.
