Ninja Gaiden 4’s Exciting Return: Will You Be the Ultimate Ninja Hero?

Talking about strengthening ties between the Xbox team and Japanese teams, Spencer mentions that the initial discussions for a new Ninja Gaiden game began approximately six to seven years ago when they initiated talks and posed the question, ‘What if…?’ It wasn’t until much later that all the pieces eventually fell into place.

As a devoted enthusiast, I’m thrilled to pieces about our bond with the publishers in Japan. It’s been an enlightening journey, requiring plenty of attentive listening to foster a robust and vibrant partnership between Xbox and Japanese game creators.

“It’s what the Xbox community deserves and I want to stay focused on that,” Spencer says.

Over the past few years, Xbox has made significant progress in gaining Japanese backing for its platform, introducing games such as Sega’s Yakuza series and Persona franchises to Xbox, and assisting with the marketing of Sega and Atlus’ 2024 RPG, Metaphor ReFantazio, which has been receiving numerous award nominations.

Following several years of exclusive release on the PlayStation console, Genshin Impact by HoYoverse was made available on Xbox in the year 2024 as well.

A sequel, 12 years later

12 long years have passed since I last experienced the thrill of Ninja Gaiden 3, and finally, we’re on the brink of Ninja Gaiden 4! This exciting new chapter in the franchise is a collaborative effort between Team Ninja and PlatinumGames, with Xbox Game Studios taking the reins as publisher. I can hardly wait to dive back into the world of the ninja once again!

In Ninja Gaiden 4, a fresh character named Yakumo enters the scene, setting himself against the long-standing series hero Ryu Hayabusa. Both characters are playable throughout the game. Yakumo employs Bloodbinding abilities to enhance his weapons significantly, allowing him to confront formidable adversaries such as cybernetic ninjas and even greater threats.

Besides announcing Ninja Gaiden 4, Team Ninja also surprised fans with a sneak peek of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black during the Xbox Developer_Direct event. This is an upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, remaking the original Ninja Gaiden 2 game. The updated version boasts enhanced visuals while retaining several features from the Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma edition of the game.

The action-packed game Ninja Gaiden 4 is expected to launch in the autumn of 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Since it’s an Xbox publication, it will be available on day one for subscribers of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
