It’s well-known that Netflix has been navigating its streaming service towards anime content more and more. In recent times, they have obtained exclusive rights for anime series such as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, Sakamoto Days, Baki Hanma, Beastars, The Seven Deadly Sins, among others. It’s also no secret that an anime adaptation usually increases the sales of its original manga, and Netflix has indeed achieved this with one of their most successful new series. With more industry leaders joining Netflix’s anime lineup, you might be amazed to learn which franchise is doing exceptionally well in terms of manga sales.
For individuals not already familiar, “Blue Box” stands out among sports anime currently available. Unlike shows like “Hajime no Ippo”, “Haikyu”, and even “Blue Lock”, which focus exclusively on a single sport, “Ao No Hako” uniquely combines the realms of basketball and badminton. The story revolves around high school characters Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu Kano, who are involved in basketball and badminton respectively. As they motivate each other to reach new pinnacles, the series initially launched as a manga in 2021, created by Kouji Miura, and continues to publish new installments today.
Blue Box Is Hitting Big Numbers

JC has decided to reprint all previously published volumes of “Blue Box” (volumes one to eighteen). The total circulation has surpassed 7 million copies. Thank you for your continued support.
The remake of “JC’s Ao no Hako” (Volumes 1 to 18) has been confirmed! It surpassed the sales figure of 700 million copies. Thank you for your support!

The Hilarious Secret of Blue Box
It might surprise you that the creator of “Blue Box” had little knowledge about sports when he initiated the franchise and still writes it today. In a recent interview, Kouji Miura revealed his struggle to depict sports accurately due to his lack of personal experience. He admitted, “Being someone who hasn’t played sports myself, I find it challenging. Whenever I encountered someone with expertise in basketball or badminton, I would ask them questions about various situations and details.
As an avid fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about how Miura explained their approach for focusing on ordinary high schoolers instead of professional athletes in the series. They thoughtfully stated, “Since we’re telling a story set in high school, we wanted to avoid making them seem overly professional. Our aim was to create an anime that reflects the everyday experiences of regular students, and just sprinkle in a touch of something extraordinary.
Right now, “Blue Box” is midway through its initial season, with another one not officially announced as of yet. Produced by Telecom Animation Film, this series shows great potential for continued success across its comic book (manga) and animated television (anime) versions.
