Marvel’s Shocking Move: The Doomblade Replaces a Legendary Weapon!

Is it inevitable that Reed Richards will encounter failure in his pursuit against Victor von Doom? Since Von Doom proclaimed himself the new Sorcerer Supreme and enchanted Latveria, sealing off his country, Reed has tirelessly sought a scientific solution to bypass the mystical barriers set by his arch-nemesis. Known for his exceptional intellect but relentless obsession, Mister Fantastic dedicated weeks to his research yet has not made any significant progress in comprehending the most formidable asset of his adversary – magic.

Reed expresses his belief that magic is what’s preventing our entry [into whatever situation they are dealing with], so it stands to reason that mastering magic could be the key to gaining access. Consequently, Susan sets up a rendezvous with a man versed in both magic and science: Dane Whitman, also known as the Black Knight.

Reflecting on how Nathan Garrett, Dane’s predecessor, wielded the Black Knight’s ethereal blade to cut through her invisible barriers during their wedding (as depicted in Fantastic Four Annual #3 from 1965), Sue surmises that this enchanted sword might bypass Doom’s force fields surrounding Latveria. Later, Reed and Sue discover Dane seated upon his Ebon Siege, crafted from melted Ebony Artifacts such as the Ebony Chalice, the Ebony Crown, and the fated Ebony Blade.

In the comic book “Black Knight: Curse of the Ebony Blade” #5, Dane chose to break the cycle of dark weapons and kingdoms rooted in hate that were fueled by his own darkness, which occurred in 2021. Notably, this was before he shared the title of Black Knight with Jackie Chopra, a transition that took place without the Ebony Blade, a weapon steeped in history since Merlin’s time as depicted in “Black Knight Comics” #1 from 1955.

Almost unbreakable and capable of slicing through nearly any material, the Ebony Sword could have penetrated the magical barrier protecting Latveria had it not been destroyed by Dane. However, this artifact is primarily utilized during the Siege, a tool that Dane employs to reveal hidden truths on other occasions.

Dan clarifies that the Richards are in search of the Enchanted Sword, capable of cleaving through anything, including time itself; whatever is severed by it remains unrepaired permanently. However, this legendary sword has been missing since it was crafted around the 14th century. Reed confides that he’s finding it challenging to combine the tangible principles of science with the unpredictable nature of magic while developing a viable anti-magic theory, and thus, he deems Dane’s equation combining magic and physics as nonsensical.

Employing the Ebon Siege as a means of time travel, Dane transports Reed, Sue, and himself to the Western Front of World War I during 1915. He tells them that this specific moment in history offers their best chance of locating the mythical Fated Blade, a weapon which could free Earth from Doctor Doom’s dominion. Upon determining the blade’s whereabouts in the past, they discover and retrieve the enchanted sword just as Sorcerer Supreme Doom manifests through the Astral Plane.

Doom discloses that he exploited Dane’s contact with the Ebon Siege to exert influence over the Black Knight once he discovered that magical entities dwelling in the Astral Plane were plotting against him. By harnessing his newfound powers, Doom eliminated them, but not before they concealed the Fated Blade in the past so that someone could find it and employ it against the Sorcerer Supreme. Doom’s machinations led Reed, Sue, and Dane to the past to retrieve the “Fated Blade” forged during the 1300s, unveiling its true identity.

In Middle English, the term for “fate” was “DOOM.” The Doomsword was a powerful magical artifact capable of harming Sorcerer Supreme Doom, but Doom managed to destroy it with assistance from his oldest adversary. He has outsmarted Mr. Fantastic (Reed Richards). With an air of triumph, Doom boasts about his conquest of the world as he starts to suffocate Reed and Sue in enchanted spheres on his home turf within the Astral Plane.

Sue and Reed come to understand that Dane’s equations were his covert attempts to escape Doom’s control, given that a physics graduate would hardly make such implausible mistakes intentionally. Intriguingly, Dane concealed a coded message within the mathematics, managing to bypass Doom since only a physicist could decipher it. What appeared as equations to others was essentially a sequence of magical incantations designed to activate a spell. All Reed needed to do was recite the spell, which he did after spending several months mastering magic. Eventually, Reed Richards utters the magical words, and they are transported from the Astral Plane to New York City.

In that location, Reed and Sue receive a broadcasted message about Emperor Doom’s worldwide union named “United Latveria.” The dominance of Doom unfolds in issue #1 of “One World Under Doom,” available for purchase on February 12th.
