In the aftermath of an unexpected disclosure during the previous mission titled “An Act of Mercy,” Skif is tasked by Dr. Kaimanaov to explore the Subtle Matter theory within the realm of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Players will be tasked with scouring the map, uncovering the whereabouts of Lab X3, and retrieving the cartridge from the Signature Station. The “Legends of the Zone” mission in Stalker 2 is one of its longest primary missions, culminating in an unexpected confrontation with a legendary stalker known as Strelok.
Retrieving Sidorovich’s Stolen Cargo in Legends of the Zone
Following the Act of Mercy mission, I found myself heading to Rookie Village in the Cordon area within Stalker 2. There, I had a meeting with Sidorovich. He needed my assistance to retrieve his cargo from a gang of marauders not far away.
- Reach the designated location of the bandits to meet with Roosevelt and his crew. If you’ve already eliminated Roosevelt during the Deal with the Devil mission, you’ll meet his crew.
- Either eliminate Roosevelt and take the Decoder from his body or take out Roosevelt’s crew and loot the Decoder from one of the thug’s bodies.
- Return to Sidorovich to show him the Decoder. He’ll suggest that Skif asks around the Rookie Village about Lab X3.
Meet Up With Dark & Reach Lab X3
After assisting Sidorovich in recovering his stolen goods, venture into the technician’s residence to inquire from Wolf about Lab X3. He may provide information on an individual called Dark, who potentially can aid Skif in gaining access to Lab X3.
- Head over to the Dark’s location and Skif will be stopped by two armed guards. They’ll lure Skif into the building and then start to attack him.
- Players will need to take out all the armed personnel in order to talk to Dark, who’ll be fighting alongside you.
- Once all the guards are taken care of, talk to Dark.
- He’ll ask Skif to retrieve his loot and meet him at the entrance to the tunnels that lead to Lab X3.
- You’ll need to first get Dark’s loot from the Electro Anomalous tunnel marked on the map. The stash is located inside a concrete structure at the end of the tunnel.
- After retrieving the items, meet dark inside the tunnels leading to Lab X3. Make sure to enter through the location marked on the map image above.
Heading Deeper Into the Facility
Following our encounter with Dark within the tunnels, he’ll clarify that the elevator has been rendered inoperable because of a power failure. It’ll fall on Skif to rectify this issue so we can proceed through the hidden entrance.
- Break the boards next to Dark and enter the ducts.
- Keep heading forward until you exit the ducts and spot a console. Flip the breaker on the console to restore the power.
- Once the power is restored, head to the large door Dark mentioned and use the Decoder on it.
- The Decoder won’t work the first time, and the area will be swarmed by Snork mutants.
- Wait for Dark to figure the situation out, and you’ll have to take out all the Snorks in the meantime. Once Dark signals Skif to try again, use the Decoder on the door again to open it.
- Keep following the path until you arrive at a large platform heading down with a catwalk on the side. Head into the doorway and across the control room to enter a lab. You’ll have to take out some Bloodsucker mutants here to proceed.
- Now continue heading forward and go down the stairwell to arrive at a hole in the ground.
- Head down the hole and go through the control room to enter the container storage room.
- After entering the storage room, look for a forklift to climb over and jump across another set of containers.
- Use the containers to reach the top of the warehouse to flip a second breaker on the console.
- After flipping the breaker, head back down, go left, and enter through the door with the red light.
- Now you’ll arrive in a room with a hole in the wall. Go through the hole to access the adjacent room, where you’ll fight a Pseudogiant mutant.
- After you eliminate the huge mutant, Dark will meet up with Skif. Talk to him and enter the next room to progress the Legends of the Zone mission in Stalker 2.
Meeting Strelok & Leaving the Facility to Retrieve the Cartridge
As I step into the room, the televisions spring to life, flashing subliminal messages that send chills down Dark’s spine in a dramatic scene. He reacts violently, collapsing to the floor, causing Skif to open fire on the TVs. Suddenly, an unseen adversary pounces on Skif and begins rooting through Dark’s personal effects, pulling out a phone with clear orders to eliminate Strelok.
In the unfolding events, it’s unveiled that the enigmatic character is none other than the mythical tracker, Strelok himself. Following a lengthy sequence of events, gamers will find themselves leaving the premises and collecting the necessary cartridge.
- Exit the room with Strelok and head to the next room. You’ll find an Exoskeleton in a connecting room here.
- Go into the main chamber of the facility and take the elevator to the top floor.
- Head across the walkway and climb up the ladder into a flower field.
- Go inside the house in the middle of the field to retrieve the cartridge.
Upon acquiring the cartridge, the “Legends of the Zone” mission in Stalker 2 will be considered accomplished. Exiting the dwelling will trigger a short chat between Strelok and you, followed by the introduction to the next mission, titled “A Subtle Matter.
