The upcoming version of Windows 11 will offer an enhanced battery symbol, providing quick access to information about your computer’s charge level. This updated icon will adapt its color based on the remaining battery percentage, and you can choose to display the exact percentage too. Additionally, clear overlays for this icon have been strategically placed so as not to obstruct the progress bar, making it more user-friendly.
With the introduction of an enhanced battery indicator, Windows 11 now mirrors the style seen on Android, iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, as these platforms already offer the option to display battery percentage. Earlier, this improved icon was a hidden feature in Windows 11 that could only be accessed using a third-party tool called ViveTool. However, the latest development allows Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel to utilize the new icon directly, without relying on external tools.
The update is included in Windows 11 Build 26120.3000, now accessible for Dev Channel Insiders. One of the multiple enhancements you’ll see in this release is an improved battery icon, but it’s the sole fresh addition in this particular build. To witness new features like this one, ensure your settings are configured to receive them.
In more straightforward terms, there’s been criticism towards Microsoft regarding potential adjustments in Windows 10 which many people consider a step back. However, it’s nice to discuss an update for Windows that seems to be well-received by everyone.
In this article, we will discuss the fresh additions and updates included in the most recent Dev Channel build, as highlighted by Microsoft.
Windows 11 Insider Build 26120.3000: New features
Improving the battery iconography in Windows 11
Get ready for updated and advanced battery symbols in Windows 11! These symbols are designed to easily convey your PC’s battery status at a glance. Notable modifications include color-coded icons for charging states, streamlined overlays that don’t obstruct the progress bar, and an option to enable display of battery percentage.
When the battery icon on your computer is green, it indicates that your PC is charging and functioning optimally. If the battery icon turns yellow, this means your PC is running on power-saving mode automatically, which typically happens when your battery level drops below 20% to conserve energy. A red battery icon signals a critically low battery level, suggesting you should connect your computer to a charger immediately. These new battery icons can be seen on the taskbar in the system tray, within the quick settings flyout, and in Settings. In an upcoming update, these battery icons will also appear on the Lock screen.
Just like before, you can easily check your PC’s battery status as well as other details by simply hovering over the battery icon in the system tray. For more detailed settings, navigate to Settings > System > Power & battery. Here, you can also customize the battery level percentage at which energy saver mode will activate for your computer.
Additionally, we’re rolling out an update that allows for displaying your battery percentage right beside the battery icon in the system tray – a frequently asked-for feature by our Insiders and users. To activate this feature, navigate to Settings > Power & battery and switch on the “Show Battery Percentage” option.
Windows 11 Insider Build 26120.3000: Changes
Input
As a researcher involved in the development of Windows 11, I’m thrilled to announce that we’re resuming the rollout of an updated Gamepad keyboard layout for our touch keyboard. This update allows you to utilize your Xbox controller not just for navigation but also for typing! For instance, the X button can now function as a backspace, while the Y button takes over the role of the spacebar. Furthermore, we’ve rearranged the keyboard keys vertically to optimize navigation using your controller.
Narrator
We’ve enhanced Narrator’s scan mode with some useful new features:
1. ‘Jump to list item (I)’ lets you swiftly navigate to a list item on any page or document.
2. Utilize the ‘Beginning and end of element (Comma (,) and Period (.))’ shortcuts to quickly move to the start or end of extensive tables, lists, or sections within a webpage or document. This is particularly handy when reading lengthy emails, news articles, or wiki pages.
To make use of these new functionalities, ensure Narrator is activated first (Win key + Ctrl + Enter), then activate scan mode by pressing Caps Lock + Spacebar. After that, you can take advantage of the new shortcuts – ‘I’, ‘,’, and ‘.’. Keep in mind that on most webpages like news articles or wiki pages, scan mode is usually activated automatically.
Search on the Taskbar
Enhancements made to Windows Search within the European Economic Area (EEA) will now provide better compatibility with web search providers. This includes more transparent labeling of these providers on the tabs for easier identification.
Other
In Windows 11, the actions that automatically pop up when you copy a phone number or future date are being phased out. Starting with this update, we’ll be gradually turning off this feature.
