Over the past month or so, subscribers of Netflix have had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the complete tale of Denis Villeneuve’s live-action “Dune” series. The 2021 version of “Dune” has been accessible on the platform for some time, and surprisingly, it was joined by the blockbuster hit from 2024 (and current Best Picture nominee) “Dune: Part Two” around the beginning of the new year. Although a third movie is planned, the storyline up to this point has been available simultaneously on Netflix, making it effortless for fans to watch sequentially. Regrettably, this convenience will end over the next week.
Starting from January 31st, the initial film of Villeneuve’s “Dune” series will no longer be available on Netflix, as indicated by the “LEAVING SOON” notice displayed alongside the movie poster. Although this might seem disappointing, it is important to note that “Dune” is moving to a more convenient platform for viewers to enjoy.
From February 1st (the day following its departure from Netflix), the movie Dune will become accessible on Tubi for streaming. For those who are not familiar, Tubi is a free, ad-supported video streaming platform offering an extensive collection of films and television shows. Unlike many other services, you don’t need to create an account to start watching Tubi’s content; however, setting up an account enables you to save watchlists and resume viewing from where you left off.
As a fan, I must say, discovering that a film as grand and impressive as Dune is now available on Tubi feels like a significant victory for a free streaming platform. This means that one of the most sought-after blockbusters from the last decade is now within reach for everyone, offering a chance to those who haven’t seen it yet to experience it for the first time without any cost.
Besides being accessible on Netflix and Tubi, the movie “Dune” can also be found streaming on Max, where it primarily resides due to its status as the main platform for Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema productions. On this service, you’ll find not only the original “Dune”, but also “Dune: Part Two”, the HBO spinoff series “Dune: Prophecy”, and the 1984 adaptation of “Dune” directed by David Lynch.
