What’s the view from your sofa?
In my bedroom, I usually enjoy watching TV while relaxing in bed, a space adorned with my BAFTA award from 2023 (won for Best Male Comedy Performance in Am I Being Unreasonable?), which serves as a constant inspiration. A cozy ambiance of TV, bed, and a steaming cup of tea – that’s my favorite tranquility spot.
What have you enjoyed on TV recently?
The Traitors. I was very sad when Linda left. She was incredible.
Who controls the remote at home?
My mum. If something I’m watching is boring her, she’ll make it clear.
Tell us about season 2 of Am I Being Unreasonable?. What can we expect from your character, Ollie?
As a cinephile, I’ve noticed a shift in his demeanor – it’s less playful now, more mature. There’s an astute awareness that even his mother might miss sometimes, small details that irk him just a bit. Yet, despite the occasional frustration, he adores her deeply.
We all get frustrated with our mums, don’t we?
Oh, yeah. I get frustrated with my mum, to be honest.
Any other similarities between you and Ollie apart from that?
As a passionate cinephile, if you take away the cat-slaughtering part, he’s almost like a grittier, more psychopathic reflection of myself. In the latest season, when he unwrapped his birthday gift, he didn’t mince words about hating it. Even I might not be thrilled with my birthday present, but I’d certainly keep my displeasure to myself.
What’s it like working with Daisy May Cooper, your co-star and series creator?
She’s simply amazing, with a knack for humor. There’s a lot of spontaneity during filming that makes the conversations seem genuine and more amusing. She’s an expert at improvisation, which can be intimidating, but she always puts me at ease and supports me. To top it off, she’s quite unconventional in the best possible way!
Reframing in a more conversational manner: More than half my life has already passed by, and there are moments that seem surreal as if they were just a dream. At the BAFTAs, I found myself thinking, “This time last year, I was right here on my couch watching this event unfold.
What’s been your favourite “pinch me” moment over the past few years?
It’s hard to fully comprehend, but I did win a BAFTA! Incredible doesn’t even begin to describe it. The whole event felt like a dream. I had the pleasure of meeting Cillian Murphy, who is simply outstanding. His kids must be proud, although they might feel a bit intimidated by having to give speeches in front of such a large crowd like I did. Funny enough, even Cillian and I were both quite nervous.
This role is quite challenging, but I must admit I’m quite fond of comedy. However, I can’t say for certain if this is a career path I’d stick to forever. It’s always beneficial to try new things and broaden one’s horizons. As an actor, there are numerous avenues to pursue.
What do your friends make of it all?
Is it hard to focus on your homework when you have all these amazing experiences?
It’s strange to move between a film set and a math classroom from one day to the next, but I’ve grown accustomed to it now. Nearly finished with school, I’m in my final year. Just a few months left before I graduate, then I’ll be free. I’ll take my GCSEs, but frankly, I can’t wait to move on.
Well, you already have an amazing career. Why, frankly, would you carry on doing maths?
