Ever since Dungeons & Dragons 5e hit the shelves, each new book has unveiled fresh worlds, creatures, and more. But the 2025 roadmap promises something truly exciting – a comeback to an established campaign setting that we haven’t seen in this rulebook before! With Eberron: Forge of the Artificer, the creative team is taking us back to, and expanding upon, the captivating realm of Eberron. As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement, knowing that this means a refreshed take on the Artificer class so closely tied to this land, but there’s so much more in store for players and Dungeon Masters alike. From updates to the lore to tantalizing tweaks, Eberron: Forge of the Artificer is set to reignite our passion for this magical world.
The updated version of “Eberron: Artificer’s Forge” is slated for release on August 19, 2025. This fresh take on Eberron features an enhanced Artificer class, sporting new subclass options and a revised ruleset. Think of it as the makeover many core classes received in the 2024 update of the 5e Player’s Handbook. It also introduces new background choices to complement the new subclasses, which are illustrated below. The creative team hasn’t disclosed the exact names of the new subclasses yet, but the artwork certainly sparks some intriguing possibilities.
The book not only delves back into, but sometimes alters the guidelines concerning the mythos of the Eberron area. This involves modifications to dragonmarks and the dragonmarked houses, broadening the criteria for acquiring dragonmarked status and extending the eligible species. For enthusiasts of airships, the book will offer additional details and innovative methods for utilizing these flying vessels.
Besides offering player-centric data to enhance the creation of Artificer and/or dragonmarked characters, the book also provides information tailored for Dungeon Masters (DMs). The book includes three sections specifically aimed at integrating the Eberron region into the revised DM guide. Each section is crafted to aid DMs in designing campaigns within this region, offering various adventure possibilities. These sections are labeled as follows:
1. Building Campaigns in the Eberron Region – Chapter 1
2. Adventures in the Eberron Region – Chapter 2
3. Mastering the Eberron Region – Chapter 3
- Sharn Inquisitives
- Dragonmarked Intrigue
- Margrave Expeditions
New D&D Eberron Book Will Be a Companion, Not a Replacement
Many enthusiasts of Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) consider its lore and rules as something almost holy. Therefore, fans particularly fond of the Eberron region, as depicted in “Eberron: Rising from the Last War”, might be curious about what a return to this region implies. As stated by Lead Rules Designer Jeremy Crawford, the upcoming book is designed to complement, not replace, the initial one.
DM’s planning to establish a campaign within Eberron may find it beneficial to have both books at their disposal. “Rising from the Last War” delves deeper into the region’s lore, which can be useful when crafting adventures. On the other hand, “Forge of the Artificer” mainly explores new lore and alterations, while offering a foundational introduction to the campaign setting.
As a game enthusiast, I’ve been wondering if these two books – “Rising from the Last War” and “Forge of the Artificer” – will come as a bundle for my next Eberron campaign. While Wizards of the Coast hasn’t given specifics yet, it seems they are indeed planning to release a combo pack that includes these two books. The newer book, “Forge of the Artificer,” is designed to serve as a self-contained guide for players interested in the Artificer class and Dungeon Masters intrigued by the Eberron campaign setting. So, even though both books may not be necessary for a party to embark on an adventure in Eberron, they could still prove useful for those diving deeper into the lore.
Mark your calendars, fellow enthusiasts! On August 19th, 2025, we’ll be diving into the world of “Eberron: Forge of the Artificer” for a new D&D adventure! While I don’t have the pricing details just yet, one thing is certain – this upcoming book will deviate from its predecessors in terms of format and design. Excited? So am I!
