After prolonged speculation, One Piece has at last unveiled Shanks’ brother Figarland Shamrock in its entirety. His identity as a World Noble may hold significant keys to understanding both his and Shanks’ destiny and importance within the narrative. The introduction of Shamrock in the most recent chapter of One Piece brings to fruition a twist that creator Eiichiro Oda appears to have been carefully constructing since Chapter 907, over seven years ago. Clues surrounding Shamrock’s character suggest that Oda has grand plans for him as we approach the Final Saga.
In Chapter 1137 of “One Piece”, it’s been made clear that the man at Elbaf resembling Shanks is, in reality, Commander of the Holy Knights and Figarland Garling’s son – Shamrock. The fact that Figarland Shamrock is a World Noble hints towards a possible connection between Shanks and Shamrock, as they could be modeled after Sköll and Hati, the Norse mythological wolves who chase the sun and the moon respectively.
One Piece’s Inspiration For Shanks and Shamrock is Genius
In the captivating realm of Norse Mythology, I find myself drawn to Sköll and Hati, two enigmatic figures often seen as Fenrir’s offspring. Fenrir is a colossal chained wolf, whose liberation from his bonds is foretold as the commencement of Ragnarok, the cataclysmic, end-of-the-world battle. This intriguing connection might suggest that my yokai transformation could lean heavily towards a wolf-like essence. In this ancient tale, Sköll relentlessly pursues the sun, while Hati doggedly chases the moon, creating day and night until Ragnarok when they finally overtake their targets and consume them.
If Garling’s moon-like demeanor hints at anything, it’s likely that Shamrock symbolizes Hati, perpetually pursuing the ideals and honor of his father, a former commander of the Holy Knights. On the other hand, Shanks may embody Sköll, relentlessly chasing after the Sun or, in terms of “One Piece,” the Sun God Nika. In chapter 1136 of “One Piece,” it was revealed that many in Elbaf greatly admire Sun God Nika and aspire to be like the legendary warrior. This could potentially explain Shanks’ reasons for stealing the Nika Fruit twelve years ago, as well as his decision to wager his arm on Luffy and ushering in a new era.
Shamrock’s Name Confirms His Biological Connection to Shanks
It’s worth noting that the shamrock, a variety of clover, is often associated with symbolizing the Holy Trinity in Christianity. This means that Shamrock is indeed related to Shanks, but not as his clone, contrary to some fan theories. In this context, Garling represents the Father, Shanks represents the Son, and Shamrock represents the Holy Spirit, serving as a Holy Knight.
To sum up, Shamrock’s arrival definitely stirs up a great deal of curiosity regarding Shanks, especially his early years. For instance, we wonder how Shanks wound up in the chest at God Valley and why Garling didn’t make an attempt to recover him but instead let him be raised by one of the most infamous pirates in the world of One Piece. However, it is clear that Shanks and Shamrock will play significant roles in the final chapter, perhaps even igniting the climactic final war. Interestingly, they, along with Loki, might serve as the triggers that spark this global-scale, potentially catastrophic conflict in One Piece.
