Martha Stewart Says Her Parole Officer Killed Her SNL Hosting Gig

Martha Stewart was ready for her big moment in studio 8H.

At the age of 83, she disclosed that she had been chosen to be the host for Saturday Night Live, after her prison release in 2005. However, her hopeful aspiration was thwartled by her parole officer.

The host of Martha & Snoop mentioned on Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show (January 27) that as he was leaving Alderson, someone asked about the camp he had been at for some time. However, his parole officer refused to grant him the necessary time to fulfill the request.

The camp under discussion is Federal Prison Camp (FPC) Alderson, located in Alderson, West Virginia. This was the facility where Martha served a term of five months following her conviction by a grand jury on nine charges, which included conspiracy, hindering justice, and lying to federal investigators regarding the selling of her ImClone shares.

She went on, explaining her rules. “For eight hours each day, I’m permitted to leave my home,” she said. “What a jerk! I still keep his contact details. I’m absolutely furious.

Still, Martha hasn’t given up hope about hosting.

“Maybe someday,” she said about being asked in the future. “I would be amazing.”

Nine times in all, Martha hasn’t shown up on Saturday Night Live, but she has been portrayed by some of the show’s long-time performers such as Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, and Kristen Wiig.

When it came to the best impersonation, Martha revealed it went to David Spade.

“He’s my favorite,” she said. “He was wearing my poncho. The real poncho.”

She went on praising the various impersonations, saying, “It’s a great compliment when someone imitates you! Essentially, you can consider it the ultimate form of flattery.

Even though she can now laugh about her prison experience more than two decades later, Martha has revealed that back then, it wasn’t something to be taken lightly.

I can’t help but express my intense dismay over the ordeal I had to endure – being reduced to a mere trophy for those dim-witted individuals in the U.S. attorney’s office, as I shared in my Netflix documentary Martha, released in October. If given the chance, I would have loved nothing more than to toss those prosecutors into a high-speed food processor and let it run wild.
