X-Manhunt: Marvel’s Most Perilous Mutant is on the Loose

The battle at Graymalkin has concluded, but the pursuit is now underway. In a four-part series that combined Marvel’s revamped X-Men and Uncanny X-Men stories, the Alaska-based X-Men, led by Cyclops, and the Louisiana-based X-Men squad, headed by Rogue, engaged in a confrontation during the escape from Graymalkin, a prison where mutants were kidnapped and held captive; it used to be the Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. With doubts about Charles Xavier being “Inmate X,” Cyclops and Rogue nearly fought over whether or not to free Xavier after his arrest on charges of atrocities against humanity. However, both teams joined forces to challenge Warden Corina Ellis instead.

In their fierce clash, Xavier discovered that Scurvy, otherwise known as Phillip, was one of the five “Avians,” a group of mutant telepaths struggling with terminal brain tumors. As Xavier interrogated Scurvy about the enigmatic Inmate X hidden behind bars, Ellis quelled the uprising by warning she would destroy the X-Men bases in Merle, Alaska, and Haven, Louisiana, using her satellite network armed with sonic cannons.

Xavier overcame Philip, yet opted to stay incarcerated as a form of penance for his wrongdoings. Cyclops informed Rogue about devising a plan to release Graymalkin inmates Blob, Siryn, and Wild Child – Ellis’ confidants, but stated that Xavier is where he rightfully should be. The powerful weapon of Ellis lies within Inmate X: the final Avian.

As a passionate moviegoer and Marvel fan, I can’t help but get excited about the upcoming seven-part crossover event titled X-Manhunt, which follows the life of the most dangerous mutant on the planet – Xavier. This thrilling adventure is set in the world of X-Men: From the Ashes and will span across almost every series involved in this epic saga.

The story takes off following the chaos caused by the Raid on Graymalkin, as depicted in X-Men #10 (releasing January 29). The event officially kicks off in Uncanny X-Men #11 (to be released March 5), and then unfolds across NYX #9, Storm #6, X-Men #13, X-Factor #8, X-Force #9, the tie-in issue Exceptional X-Men #7, and a double-sized one-shot finale – X-Manhunt Omega #1.

This exhilarating journey promises to immerse us in an action-packed storyline that will keep us on the edge of our seats!

The official synopsis:

The story unfolds as Professor X makes a daring escape from Graymalkin Prison, causing dissension among various mutant groups due to his past transgressions during the Krakoan Era. After serving his sentence at a mutant detention center constructed on his old school grounds, Charles Xavier finds himself compelled by an enigmatic motivation to break free—and he does so urgently as a telepathic plague threatens his sanity and those around him.

The pursuit of the world’s most dangerous mutant commences, and Professor X summons the X-Men for aid. Some are willing to extend forgiveness, while others remain resentful. As his former allies debate his fate, the founder of the X-Men will be confronted with his compromised reputation one final time!

In summary, the narrative revolves around Professor X’s escape from captivity driven by a mysterious new objective. He must act swiftly as a destructive telepathic disease endangers both him and those close to him. The chase for the world’s most dangerous mutant ensues, and the X-Men are called upon to help. However, their loyalties are divided, forcing Professor X to confront his questionable past before it’s too late!

Tom Brevoort, the Executive Editor, mentioned that we’ve generally kept different groups of X-characters apart as we structured the post-Krakoa environment. However, he feels it’s now appropriate to stir up conflict by bringing these groups together. And who else could provoke such a situation better than the disgraced Professor X, given his deep personal ties with many of our central figures?

Prominent characters from the X-Men universe will be in the limelight for the X-Manhunt variant cover series by artist Phil Noto. The roster includes Laura Kinney as Wolverine and Ms. Marvel (NYX #9), Storm and Maggot (Storm #6), Rogue and Nightcrawler (Uncanny X-Men #11), Havok and Frenzy (X-Factor #8), Cyclops and Magik (X-Men #13), Sage and John Wraith (X-Force #9), and Psylocke, Wolverine, and Charles Xavier (X-Manhunt Omega #1).
