Percy Jackson and the Olympians (the original series)

In the mid-to-late 2000s, the first five Percy Jackson novels hit shelves at a rapid pace, introducing characters like Percy, Annabeth, and Grover, along with the pantheon of gods from Mount Olympus to readers everywhere.

Additionally, two more books, “The Chalice of the Gods” and “Wrath of the Triple Goddess,” have been incorporated into the series, which are collectively known as the Senior Year Adventures. In these stories, Percy and his companions have grown older than before.

It’s more convenient to follow the reading sequence based on their release dates, as this also presents them in chronological order. A linear progression is refreshing, don’t you think?

  • 1. The Lightning Thief (2005)
  • 2. The Sea of Monsters (2006)
  • 3. The Titan’s Curse (2007)
  • 4. The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008)
  • 5. The Last Olympian (2009)

The Heroes of Olympus

If you’ve become captivated by the initial five books and can’t get enough, your next read could be “The Heroes of Olympus” series, as it delves deeper into a prophecy hinted at in Percy Jackson and The Last Olympian (the fifth book).

  • 7. The Son of Neptune (2011)
  • 8. The Mark of Athena (2012)
  • 9. The House of Hades (2013)
  • 10. The Blood of Olympus (2014)

The Trials of Apollo

After “The Heroes of Olympus,” a series of the next five novels unfolds, focusing on the tale of Apollo, a god who was banished from Mount Olympus by his own father, Zeus.

  • 11. The Hidden Oracle (2016)
  • 12. The Dark Prophecy (2017)
  • 13. The Burning Maze (2018)
  • 14. The Tyrant’s Tomb (2019)
  • 15. The Tower of Nero (2020)

The Senior Year Adventures

In 2023, Rick Riordan thrilled readers by releasing another installment in the Percy Jackson saga, entitled “Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Chalice of the Immortals.

Title “The Chalice of the Gods” differs from the initial five books in the Percy Jackson and The Olympics series, offering a less intense narrative. Despite the change, it is recognized as the sixth book within this sequence. Importantly, “The Chalice of the Gods” unfolds after the side series “The Heroes of Olympus,” but prior to “The Trials of Apollo.” To fully appreciate this story, it’s recommended that you read those books in advance.

Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that a new installment in the Percy Jackson series, entitled “Wrath of the Triple Goddess,” came out in the year 2024.

This story unfolds immediately following The Chalice of the Gods and forms part of Percy and his friends’ final high school years. Although the risks involved are less severe, the book remains a delightful read throughout.

  • 16. The Chalice of the Gods (2023)
  • 17. Wrath of the Triple Goddess (2024)

On December 20th, 2023, the premiere of Percy Jackson and the Olympians will take place on Disney Plus. To watch it, consider subscribing to Disney Plus at just £8.99 per month or save with an annual subscription for £89.90.
