As per Team Ninja producer Fumihiko Yasuda during the latest Xbox Developer_Direct, it was Microsoft’s head of gaming, Phil Spencer, who proposed the collaboration between Team Ninja and PlatinumGames for the development of Ninja Gaiden 4, as announced recently.
According to Yasuda, Game Watch, he acknowledges Spencer for initiating the team-up concept. Simultaneously, he discusses the challenges faced by Team Ninja in devising a game development strategy. Moreover, Yasuda emphasizes that the amicable relationship between Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma and PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba played a crucial role.
As a passionate admirer of the Ninja Gaiden series, I’ve been eagerly awaiting any news about its potential return. And it seems that my wait might finally be coming to an end! According to recent reports, Team Ninja has been mulling over the idea of a new title for quite some time now. However, they were finding it challenging to decide on the best course of action. But then, fate stepped in! The presidents of Koei Tecmo and PlatinumGames, who happen to be from the same generation and share a strong bond of friendship, had an opportunity to discuss this very subject.
Subsequently, Yasuda discussed their shared background in creating high-speed action games. This includes Team Ninja’s expertise from the _Ninja Gaiden_ series, and PlatinumGames’ acclaim for games such as _Nier: Automata_ and _Bayonetta_.
Following this, Phil Spencer from Microsoft proposed a joint effort between PlatinumGames, Koei Tecmo, and Microsoft on a fresh installment in the Ninja Gaiden series. This initiative was then set into motion. Although we’ve created action games in the past, as it had been more than a decade since the last Ninja Gaiden, and PlatinumGames has a proven track record of creating excellent action titles like Bayonetta and NieR: Automata, we decided to team up with them for this project. Thus, collaboration was initiated.
Spencer himself disclosed during a recent interview that ideas for a new installment in the Ninja Gaiden series have been brewing for approximately six to seven years. He discussed his interactions with different game publishers in Japan, and after numerous face-to-face meetings and online discussions, the project for Ninja Gaiden 4 was set into action.
It’s confirmed that the release of “Ninja Gaiden 4” is set for this autumn, reaching platforms such as PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Additionally, subscribers to Game Pass will have access to the game.
In the upcoming installment of this series, we’ll meet a fresh character named Yakuma, who is a young ninja belonging to the Raven Clan and serves as our new main character. However, don’t worry Ryu Hayabusa fans – he’s still around and set to appear in the story, potentially influencing key events within the game. The announcement teaser hinted at a bit of rivalry brewing between Yakuma and Hayabusa.
At the same time a remake of Ninja Gaiden 2 was unveiled, which draws upon the foundations of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2, it was also confirmed that Ninja Gaiden 4 is in development. Known as Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, this new game can be played on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. For a more comprehensive understanding, you may want to read our review for additional insights.
