While The Final Shape marked the end of Destiny 2‘s Light and Darkness saga, it doesn’t signify that Bungie has exhausted its storytelling potential in their science fiction realm. On the contrary, they are quite far from wrapping up their narratives. In fact, the studio based in Washington recently conducted a developer livestream for the game’s third episode titled Destiny 2: Heresy. Serving as the final chapter to the title’s initial major saga, developers delved deep into all the new content set to release in less than a week. This exciting update also includes a significant collaboration with one of the most iconic multimedia franchises ever, Star Wars.
During the final stream of Act 1 for “Destiny 2: Heresy”, Bungie unveiled a set of three armor collections modeled after the Galactic Empire’s soldiers. Each class will have its own themed armor set, allowing players to embody the iconic appearance of the galaxy’s feared troops. More precisely, the Death Trooper (Covert Rangers), Imperial Royal Guard (Royal Protector), and Storm Trooper (Shock Enforcer) sets are planned for Hunters, Warlocks, and Titans respectively.
Moreover, a fresh Star Wars-inspired spectral casing is also being incorporated into Destiny 2. Maintaining the Galactic Empire motif, the DS-2 Shell is designed after the second Death Star from the last film of the original trilogy, Return of the Jedi. Not only does it resemble the ominous battle station, but it also fires a miniature super laser. This spectral shell can be obtained by all character classes.
Furthermore, Destiny 2 is set to introduce Star Wars-inspired sparrow, ship, emote, and finisher elements, but Bungie chose not to unveil them during their livestream. However, they did confirm that these collaboration items will become available in the Eververse store starting February 4th with the launch of Heresy. Players can acquire these items using Silver currency, which is purchasable with real money within the game. The prices for these upcoming items remain undisclosed at this time.
Previously, Destiny 2 hasn’t only teamed up with another popular franchise; rather, their past collaborations have predominantly occurred within the realm of video games. Examples include Assassin’s Creed, Fortnite, The Witcher, Street Fighter, Halo, and multiple PlayStation franchises. In advance of the 2024 release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the game introduced a series of items themed around this classic comedy franchise – a sparrow, ship, and ghost shell. This package retailed for 2,800 Silver, equivalent to approximately $30 in real currency. It’s unannounced, but players may anticipate paying the same amount for merchandise from the upcoming Star Wars collaboration.
The Star Wars crossover is simply a feature in the latest episode of Destiny 2. This episode, titled “Heresy,” marks the end of the long-standing Light and Darkness saga, which started back in 2014. It’s been divided into three parts, with the initial part bringing back the Dreadnaught. In this game, players can participate in a fresh activity called The Nether. This activity combines exploration, combat, and increasing difficulty levels to ensure that players stay alert every time they jump in.
In a recent PS Blog post, Destiny 2’s Narrative Architect Nikko Stevens stated that the return of the Dreadnaught is noteworthy because it will bring about changes we haven’t encountered before. The Dreadnaught has been dormant for nearly a decade, but its resurrection has piqued the interest of the Vanguard and Guardians across the system. We’re eager to explore what lies within the Dreadnaught now that Oryx is defeated and there’s no Navigator guiding it.
As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “Every second, waves of Taken forces and corrosive energy pour out from the Dreadnaught in Heresy, creating a bitter current that pushes us Guardians back whenever we try to board the ship. That’s where The Nether comes into play.
In the launch of its new episode on February 4th, all fresh content, gameplay enhancements, and themed accessories will be available in Destiny 2.
