Starting in January 2026, Sony has revealed that they will shift their attention from PlayStation 4 (PS4) to PlayStation 5 (PS5) consoles for their PS Plus Essential updates. From next year, the base tier and both PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers will primarily focus on PS5 games, although there may still be occasional PS4 releases.
According to the PlayStation Blog, as we transition to the PlayStation 5, access to PS4 games as a major benefit will end starting in January 2026. However, these games may still appear occasionally in the PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog. Additionally, any PS4 games you’ve already claimed through PS Plus will remain playable for you after this date, and some titles might still be playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles beyond that point.
We plan to keep enhancing the PlayStation Plus experience for you, with ongoing improvements to the perks like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, online game save storage, and much more. As we move our focus towards PS5, we are excited to start offering new PS5 games every month for your enjoyment.
Starting in January 2026, the primary emphasis for PS Plus, across all its tiers, will shift towards native PS5 titles. While you may occasionally find a PS4 title included, it’s important to note that such inclusions should not be anticipated regularly within the next 12 months.
