In discussions about British detective series, Midsomer Murders frequently ranks among the top choices due to its enduring appeal and ability to captivate audiences with intriguing puzzles in every new installment.
Despite some delays in the release timeline, it’s been confirmed by our main actor, Neil Dudgeon, that production for the upcoming season will begin shortly.
This year was our break from filming. Instead, we filmed last year. However, we will be back to filming this year starting from March. Specifically, we will be producing four new stories during this timeframe.

For a second time, spectators are set to journey to the Midsomer countryside, where they can expect more chilling mysteries and notable appearances.
As a die-hard film enthusiast, I’ve always been captivated by the character of DCI John Barnaby, brilliantly portrayed by none other than Dudgeon himself. Interestingly, John Barnaby is the younger cousin to the charismatic DCI Tom Barnaby, a role previously brought to life by the talented John Nettles in the earlier series.
To date, this duo has been the sole lead actors throughout the show’s impressive 24-year journey since 1997. Is there any indication that Dudgeon might be planning to part ways with the series in the near future?
“I’m very happy in the countryside there. It’s very nice,” he said.
No, I believe eventually I’ll be replaced or removed from this situation. It’s like a metaphorical hook that will appear, pulling me away from the spotlight and making them no longer need me.
“But they haven’t done it yet, so I’m going to keep going to work until I get the hook.”
In this production, Dudgeon takes the lead role, with Nick Hendrix portraying Detective Sergeant Jamie Winter and Barnaby’s trusted associate. The principal ensemble also features Fiona Dolman as Sarah Barnaby, John’s wife, and Annette Badland as medical examiner Fleur Perkins.
For quite some time now, we’ve been enjoying Midsomer on our screens, as the series marked its 25th anniversary way back in 2022.
The event featured a streaming documentary titled “Midsomer Murders – A Quarter-Century of Chaos,” which can be found on ITVX.
