Top 5 Spider-Man Action Scenes: From Substations to Multiverse Battles

The “Spider-Man” film series has soared to become one of the most esteemed movie franchises ever made, with its characters now deeply adored by fans following their integration into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since Sam Raimi’s “Spider-Man” graced the big screen in 2002, viewers have been treated to numerous interpretations of the web-slinger, portrayed by three different actors: Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland. Each actor has added a distinctive touch to Peter Parker and his Spider-Man persona, but they’ve all managed to capture crucial aspects from the original source material that define Spider-Man. These include dealing with the challenges of reconciling his powers with everyday life responsibilities, protecting New York City (and sometimes the entire universe), and navigating complex relationships amidst all the turmoil.

Despite experiencing both peaks and valleys, it’s undeniable that the Spider-Man films have consistently shone when it comes to creating thrilling fight scenes. Here are the top five action sequences from the Spider-Man movie franchise you won’t want to miss.

The Three Spideys Fight as a Team – Spider-Man: No Way Home

There were many rumors swirling around if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of Spider-Man would join forces with Tom Holland’s. To the delight of fans everywhere, they not only shared the screen but united to battle a group of villains from different universes, such as Green Goblin, Lizard, Sandman, Electro, and Doctor Octopus. This epic confrontation, happening at the Statue of Liberty, showcased all three Spider-Men combining their abilities, moving and spinning synchronously through the air like skilled acrobats.

In my opinion, under different guidance, this collaboration might have merely served as an entertaining yet shallow homage to fans. However, Director Jon Watts cleverly infused it with genuine storyline tension, making certain that every character had their moment in the midst of the turmoil, leaving us admirers captivated.

Spider-Man vs. Electro – The Amazing Spider-Man 2

In a somewhat less acclaimed installment titled The Amazing Spider-Man 2, fans may not be entirely smitten, but it does offer some thrilling sequences, such as an intense confrontation at a power station. Spider-Man’s powers prove ineffective against Electro, a foe who commands electricity and possesses an electric body. Electro effortlessly tosses Spider-Man around using massive transformers, leaving him defenseless. Fortunately, Gwen Stacy arrives on the scene, and together they overcharge Electro’s body with electricity, resulting in his complete disintegration.

In this scene, I’m captivated by an eye-catching battle, bolstered by impressive CGI effects. Here, Electro unleashes his mighty powers in all their glory, and Jamie Foxx delivers a chilling, menacing portrayal. Meanwhile, Andrew Garfield effortlessly dispenses Spidey’s trademark wisecracks. However, the action takes a slight dip when Electro sings a haunting version of “Itsy Bitsy Spider” using power transformers, which feels somewhat out of place.

Spider-Man vs. Mysterio’s Illusions – Spider-Man: Far From Home

In a turn of events, Spider-Man encounters Nick Fury for a discussion about Quentin Beck’s evil intentions disguised as Mysterio. However, the conversation turns out to be a cleverly crafted deception orchestrated by Mysterio himself. What follows is a series of mind-bending illusions designed to confuse Spider-Man’s perceptions, making it challenging for him to distinguish fact from fiction. Throughout this ordeal, Mysterio mocks Spider-Man, reminding him of his past shortcomings and even conjuring an illusion of a decayed Iron Man – Peter’s former mentor and ally – as part of the torment. The climax arrives when Mysterio discontinues his illusions, only to trick Spider-Man into being struck by a train.

In this creatively designed battle sequence, Mysterio’s talents for both confusing Spider-Man physically and tugging at his emotional strings are brilliantly demonstrated. You can sense each mental blow that Mysterio lands on Spider-Man, even amidst the kaleidoscopic visual effects.

Spider-Man Takes on Green Goblin – Spider-Man

In an abandoned structure, Spider-Man and Green Goblin engage in a brutal brawl, making it a fierce battle. Initially, Green Goblin has control over the fight, mercilessly beating up Spider-Man. But when all seems lost for our hero, he somehow recovers, counterattacking and causing a brick wall to fall on Green Goblin. However, in a cunning move, Green Goblin feigns being ordinary citizen Norman Osborn, tricking Spider-Man momentarily. Seizing the opportunity, Green Goblin launches his glider towards Spider-Man, but our hero’s heightened senses warn him just in time, allowing him to jump clear as the glider collides with his chest, seemingly taking the villain’s life.

Spider-Man and Green Goblin have a tough fight inside an old building. At first, Green Goblin looks like he’ll win, but Spider-Man gets stronger and turns things around by making a wall collapse on him. However, the Green Goblin tricks Spidey by pretending to be someone else, giving himself enough time to throw a glider at Spider-Man, which unfortunately hits him instead, killing the villain.

In this high-octane battle, director Sam Raimi employs every filmmaking technique at his disposal: swift camera movements, fast-paced editing, and action-packed fight coordination. These elements propel the fight sequence to an even more exhilarating experience.

The OTHER Spider-Man Takes on Green Goblin – Spider-Man: No Way Home

In the movie “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” Willem Dafoe’s character, Norman Osborn’s Green Goblin, is so maliciously manipulative that he can’t resist antagonizing and engaging in combat with a Spider-Man from another dimension. Inside Happy Hogan’s apartment, the Green Goblin’s alter ego resurfaces, needling Peter Parker, which leads to an intense battle between the two. This confrontation results in a chaotic clash, with both characters crashing through walls and flooring. The fight scenes are filled with intricate moves – it’s all about raw fisticuffs as the Green Goblin exploits Spider-Man’s rage.

Instead of relying heavily on computer-generated imagery (CGI) for action sequences like most Spider-Man films, this fight scene focuses more on choreographed combat. Remarkably, it achieves a great balance. Despite its intense nature, the emotional impact remains strong throughout, allowing us to witness Peter Parker, as Spider-Man, succumb to his emotions due to life’s complexities and give in to his rage.

The Spider-Man movies are streaming on Disney+.
