Supporters of The Elder Scrolls series no longer have one more game to purchase and enjoy due to its permanent closure. Currently, The Elder Scrolls enthusiasts are primarily focusing their interest between The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls Online. Furthermore, there’s a possibility that they will soon have another choice with the potential release of the remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, assuming recent rumors are true. However, they no longer have the option to choose from the 2017 spin-off.
Starting January 30, 2025, my days as an enthusiastic player of The Elder Scrolls: Legends, a captivating free-to-play collectible card game that debuted seven years prior through Bethesda, will come to an end. Initially available on personal computers and mobile devices, this game never made its way onto consoles.
Although the game has been in existence for seven years, Bethesda ceased providing updates as of 2019. Last year, it was taken off the market along with an announcement that its servers would be deactivated on January 30. To this day, these plans remain unchanged. Today marks the day when the game will no longer be accessible, making it impossible to play.
It was announced that The Elder Scrolls: Legends game servers will close permanently on January 30, 2025. Starting immediately until January 30, 2025, all items in the store and entry into in-game events will cost only one gold each. This is to allow players to experience everything the game has to offer before it shuts down for good on that date. At that point, you will no longer be able to access the game.
Bethesda hasn’t explicitly stated why they shut down and stopped selling the game, but it’s highly likely that financial considerations and security concerns played a significant role. Maintaining servers for a game with a decreasing player base can be costly, and there’s also a potential security risk in keeping live servers that are not regularly updated and monitored. At this point, the game seems to have vanished permanently, although it might reappear someday, albeit unlikely. Given that the game was only available digitally, its disappearance is essentially a loss to time.
