Microsoft’s New USB4 Dock: Smaller, Cheaper, and Perfect for Your Setup!

It’s time for some fresh Surface hardware! Microsoft has recently revealed Intel Lunar Lake-powered editions of the Surface Pro 11 and Surface Laptop 7, equipped with anti-reflective screens for business users. Additionally, a new Surface Laptop with 5G is on the horizon for later this year. To top it off, Microsoft has also introduced a more affordable and compact Surface Dock, which boasts fewer ports compared to its predecessor.

Instead of getting confused with the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock, opt for the freshly introduced Surface USB4 Dock that retails at an affordable $199, which is $100 less than its predecessor. Unlike the Thunderbolt 4 Dock, the new USB4 Dock comes in a compact size but offers fewer ports; it has only two USB-C ports, one USB-A port, an HDMI port, and an Ethernet jack.

As an enthusiast myself, I’d say that the latest dock is particularly catered towards folks like me who only require a handful of extra ports for storage or additional devices. For those with heavier usage needs, the Surface Thunderbolt 4 Dock or Surface Dock 2 would be more suitable. These advanced docks link to a Surface PC via the exclusive magnetic Surface Connect port.

As a tech enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the new USB4 Dock! This beauty can simultaneously power two 4K displays using both its HDMI and USB-C ports at the back. The front offers an extra USB-C port for added convenience, plus a USB-A port for my accessories and external storage devices. Unlike past Surface Docks, this one is powered by a standard USB-C cable, which is a game changer as previous models relied on a proprietary power supply unit (PSU) cable.

You can pre-order the freshly available Surface USB4 Dock right now for $199. It’s anticipated to begin delivery on February 18.
