With each new addition to the cast of “Scream 7”, fans of the renowned horror series find themselves pondering an increasing number of puzzling enigmas. For instance, we’re all scratching our heads about why Neve Campbell is married to a man named Mark who isn’t the same as Patrick Dempsey’s character Mark from “Scream 3”. Now, another perplexing question arises from “Scream 3”, this time concerning the apparent survival of Roman Bridger.
On Thursday, it was announced that Scott Foley has signed up for the cast of Scream 7, marking his return to the series after an absence of 25 years. However, it’s worth noting that his character, Roman Bridger, perished in the events of Scream 3. In the franchise’s third installment, Roman was unmasked as the Ghostface Killer and was also the instigator of Billy Loomis’ actions in the original Scream.
Roman, who was Sidney Prescott’s secret half-brother, had always plotted against her and their mother out of a desire for revenge. This connection might be significant given that Campbell is bringing Sidney back in the upcoming film, Scream 7. However, it’s important to remember that we saw Roman die in the third movie, Scream 3, as Dewey Riley shot him in the head, a wound from which there was no chance of survival.
In simpler terms, it’s not like a Kirby wound scenario where a character could seemingly return from their on-screen death. Roman’s death seemed definite. However, the uncertainty lies in whether or not Foley will indeed portray Roman in future scenes.
According to the latest update from Deadline’s report, it appears Foley will join the cast of Scream 7. However, specific details regarding his role are being tightly guarded, leaving fans wondering if he’ll reprise his role as Roman or take on a completely new character.
Considering the background of the film “Scream”, it leaves room for various possibilities. For instance, could it be that Roman was a twin, resulting in a replica of the “Urban Legends: Final Cut” storyline within the “Scream” series. Alternatively, there’s a chance Roman might manifest as a spirit or vision to Sidney in this upcoming movie, much like how Skeet Ulrich’s character, Billy Loomis, made recurring appearances to influence his daughter, Sam Carpenter, in the latter films.
No matter who else is involved, Foley will be part of an impressive ensemble for Scream 7. This upcoming film is being helmed by the original franchise writer Kevin Williamson. Notably, Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox are reprising their roles, as well as Mason Gooding, who was a key player in the last two films. The team also includes Joel McHale, Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Anna Camp, and Mark Consuelos.
Scream 7 is currently in production, with a release date currently set for February 27, 2026.
