As a film enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming concert movie experience of “The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl.” This spectacular event promises epic performances with a 70-strong orchestra, an array of talented dancers, cutting-edge visuals through projection mapping, and the Broadway show’s acclaimed costumes and puppetry. All these elements combine to offer viewers worldwide a premium front-row view to this unprecedented musical spectacle that delves into the enchanting world of “The Lion King.
The Pride Lands-themed, immersive live performance brings together the original voice actors along with performers from the legendary Broadway version of the show.
In a stellar cast collaboration, renowned performer Lebo M joins original cast members such as Jeremy Irons (Scar), Nathan Lane (Timon), Ernie Sabella (Pumbaa), and Jason Weaver (the singing voice of young Simba from the original film) in an upcoming production. This ensemble also includes Billy Eichner, who voiced Timon in the 2019 adaptation and Mufasa, Heather Headley, the Grammy-winning actress who originated the role of Nala on Broadway, and Bradley Gibson, who played Simba in the 1997 staging.
Notable attendees include North West and Jennifer Hudson, a multiple award-winner including an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (affectionately known as an EGOT). On her stint on American Idol in 2004, she sang Elton John’s “The Circle of Life”, a performance you can watch in the trailer above, which was recently made available.
The music is by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and a score composed by Hans Zimmer.
The special concert performance of “The Lion King” is orchestrated by Disney Concerts, a group that has previously organized events like “The Little Mermaid: In Concert Live to Film”, “Aladdin: In Concert Live to Film”, and both “The Lion King: Live in Concert” and “The Lion King (2019): In Concert Live to Film”. The production companies responsible are Fulwell 73 Productions, known for “Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium”, AMP Worldwide, famous for “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Live in Concert”, and Live Nation-Hewitt Silva.
