Reese Witherspoon‘s kids don’t tune into her morning show.
The Oscar-winning actress disclosed that her children, including Ava Philippe (daughter with Ryan Philippe), Deacon Philippe (son with the same ex), and Tennessee Toth (son from a subsequent relationship with Jim Toth), who are aged 25, 21, and 12 respectively, have shown little interest in watching her extensive collection of films and television series.
According to Reese, her children deliberately steer clear of her professional work. As she shared with TopMob News, “Last night, my son admitted he wasn’t aware I earned a living by being humorous. He said something like, ‘I didn’t realize that. You’re funny at home—in a casual way.’
Indeed, the woman who is 48 years old mentioned that one of her sons was taken aback by the audience’s response to her upcoming film, “You’re Cordially Invited,” which features Will Ferrell and premiered on Amazon Prime on January 30, when he attended a preliminary viewing.
In his recollection, when he watched the movie, it felt to him as if people were chuckling at your material, and Reese responded with a nod of agreement, essentially saying, “Yes.” (Tune into TopMob News Tonight, Jan. 30 at 11 p.m., for more from Reese and Will.)
Meanwhile, although her son seems to appreciate his mother’s latest romantic comedy, “Legally Blonde,” its star humorously expressed doubts about whether other children of his age group would share the same sentiment.
As a lifestyle expert, I’d casually rephrase that by saying, “He mentioned that kids their age might not be interested in it because, well, let’s just say I’m not exactly their peer group. However, I believe they’ll find it enjoyable when they eventually watch it with their parents.
Recently, I experienced a profoundly humbling moment with my sons Magnus (20), Mattias (18), and Axel (15), whom I share a beautiful 25-year partnership with the remarkable Viveca Paulin.
In a shared interview, Will commented, “One of my sons said, ‘Dad, you’re similar to an NBA player who had a successful career, but it plateaued slightly, yet now you seem to be experiencing a resurgence in your career.’ He then added humorously, ‘So I suppose I was retired for quite some time. Now I’m making a comeback.’
To catch more from Reese and Will, don’t miss out on TopMob News airing tonight, January 30th at 11:00 PM. While you wait, continue reading to discover more captivating tidbits about the former cast member of Big Little Lies.

Born as Laura Jean Reese Witherspoon in 1976, she hails from New Orleans. Interestingly, the ‘Reese’ part of her name comes from her mother’s maiden surname.
2. It is said that she is a descendant of John Witherspoon, one of the 56 signatories of the Declaration of Independence; however, this claim has not been validated by the genealogists of the Society of Descendants of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence.
3. For four years of her childhood, Reese lived in Wiesbaden, Germany, since her father, Dr. John Draper Witherspoon, was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Reserve.
4. Having a strong academic focus and a passion for books, she was affectionately known as “Little Miss Type A” by her family during her upbringing. Later establishing her own production company under the name Type A, this title paid homage to her nickname. In a 2005 interview with Interview, she explained the reasoning behind the title choice, admitting, “It was actually an inside joke within my family because at age 7 I already understood complex medical concepts, like the distinctions between type A and type B personalities. However, if only I had named the company Dogfood Films or Fork instead. You always carry such baggage along with you throughout your life.
5. At the tender age of 7, she landed her debut acting role, modeling for flower shop advertisements. This experience ignited her passion for acting and prompted her to enroll in acting classes.
Back in 1991, she decided to try out for a minor role during an open audition for the movie titled “The Man in the Moon.” However, to her surprise, she ended up winning the main part of Dani Trant, a 14-year-old girl experiencing her first love with her 17-year-old neighbor. In her initial performance, she was recognized and nominated for Best Young Actress at the Young Artist Awards that same year.
7. Even though she started her acting career at the age of 14 and managed to maintain strong academic performance sufficient for admission into Stanford University as an English literature major, she chose to leave after just a year in order to focus on her rapidly growing acting career.
8. Reese first encountered her husband, Ryan Phillippe, at her 21st birthday party in 1997, which was attended by a common friend. In an interview with People magazine in 2002, she recalled telling him as the night ended, “I believe you are my present.
9. Following the production of the iconic movie “Cruel Intentions,” which premiered in 1999, Phillippe popped the question to his girlfriend in December 1998, presenting a romantic breakfast-in-bed spread of waffles, strawberries, and cream. They exchanged vows in Charleston, South Carolina on June 5, 1999. Their daughter, Ava, arrived three months later.
10. On September 29, 2001, Witherspoon was the host for the debut episode of Saturday Night Live following the September 11 terrorist attacks. In a 2015 interview with Katie Couric, Witherspoon shared, “New York City was going through a tough time back then. However, I felt incredibly honored to be there and perform alongside firefighters, Paul Simon, and Lorne Michaels. I believe that Lorne did an exceptional job in getting the show running again and bringing laughter back to America.
11. When Reese Witherspoon bagged the main part in director Mira Nair’s production of “Vanity Fair,” Nair playfully suggested that Witherspoon become pregnant to add weight for the role. As it turned out, Witherspoon revealed her second pregnancy while filming, requiring careful wardrobe adjustments to hide her growing belly.
12. Deacon, the son of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe, who was born in October 2003, was given his name in honor of a former Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher named Deacon Phillippe, who is related to Ryan Phillippe.
13. In her portrayal as June Cash in “Walk the Line,” she found herself among an exclusive group of actresses who have garnered the Academy Award, BAFTA, Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe, and Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for a single performance.
14. She and Phillippe split in 2006 after seven years of marriage.
15. After receiving a poor script from her agent, Witherspoon decided to transition into film production. In an interview with Chelsea Handler in 2017, she expressed, “If every actress in Hollywood is vying for this role, I realized I need to start creating movies because this opportunity doesn’t truly value women’s talent.
16. Following her relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, Witherspoon encountered her talent agent Jim Toth at a party in early 2010. At this gathering, he intervened when an intoxicated man began harassing her. In 2012, she recounted the incident to Elle magazine, stating, “This guy was all over me, acting foolishly and yelling at me. He kept saying, ‘You don’t know me.’ To which I replied, ‘Yes, I know. I don’t know you!’ Jim stepped in and said his friend had just broken up with someone. Jim was a true friend indeed, helping him out of that predicament. That’s just the kind of person he is.” They exchanged vows at her ranch in Ojai, California, in March 2011 and welcomed their son, Tennessee, in September 2012.
17. In 2013, Witherspoon and Toth were stopped by the Atlanta Police Department due to Toth swerving between lanes. While officers were arresting her husband for driving under the influence, it is claimed that she became angry and began causing a scene, asking the officers “Do you know who I am?” When they replied that they didn’t need to, she allegedly responded with “You’re about to find out.” She was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and eventually pleaded no contest to obstruction.
In light of the current legal matter at hand, I’m unable to discuss all the details circulating currently. However, let me make it clear that I overindulged in alcohol that night, and I’m profoundly ashamed of the things I said. It was indeed a nerve-wracking situation, and my fear for my husband didn’t justify my behavior. I acted disrespectfully towards the officer who was simply doing his duty. The harsh words I used were not characteristic of me. I hold the police in high regard, and I sincerely apologize for my actions that night.
18. Back in a 2002 conversation with People magazine, Witherspoon confessed her fascination with Tupperware, admitting that she simply cannot resist the allure of a Hold Everything store and always feels drawn to step inside whenever she passes one by.
19. Between 2007 and 2011, Reese Witherspoon worked as the announcer for the Playhouse Disney programming block on the Disney Channel. Her voice was heard in promos, transitions, and advertisements specifically designed for the morning schedule, which caters to children aged 3-8.
2013 saw her featuring on Michael Bublé’s album titled “To Be Loved,” where she covered the iconic duet “Somethin’ Stupid,” originally sung by Frank Sinatra and Nancy Sinatra.
21. In 2015, she introduced her retail label, Draper James, a tribute to her grandparents, Dorothea Draper and William James Witherspoon. This brand, which offers fashion, accessories, and home decor inspired by the American South, debuted its first physical store in the autumn of 2015 in Nashville, her birthplace.
As a passionate reader and devotee, I couldn’t contain my excitement when Ree Drummond, a lady close to my heart, unveiled her debut lifestyle book, “Whiskey in a Teacup,” on September 18, 2018. This enchanting masterpiece, steeped in her southern heritage, is more than just a book; it’s a testament to the charm of her roots. And guess what? The author herself manages a monthly book club through her Instagram account, revealing new literary gems each month. I can hardly wait for my next reading adventure with her!
23. She declined offers for parts in “Scream” and “Urban Legend,” and was a contender for the main role in “Romeo + Juliet,” but ultimately lost it to Claire Danes. Additionally, she had to leave Pixar’s “Brave” due to her inability to convincingly portray Merida with the required Scottish accent.
24. She kept most of Elle Woods’ iconic wardrobe from the Legally Blonde franchise.
As a dedicated lifestyle advocate, I played a pivotal role in igniting the Time’s Up movement by reaching out to my network of friends and industry peers via text and email. I then assembled these women in one space, fostering an environment where our collective voices could shape a powerful action plan. Additionally, I was instrumental in identifying the talented designer responsible for creating the movement’s enduring logo and pin design, which made its grand debut on the red carpet at the 2018 Golden Globes.
