Judy Blume’s Forever… TV Series Will Make You Cry and Smile

A timeless masterpiece by Judy Blume has secured a permanent residence on Netflix.

Two years following the announcement of Netflix’s adaptation of her 1975 novel, “Forever…”, into a new romance drama series, the streaming platform unveiled its initial teaser on January 30th. With tissues at the ready for those who choose to binge-watch this series, which is penned and executive produced by Mara Brock Akil, creator of “Girlfriends”.

Titled appropriately after the book, “Forever” will revolve around two African American teenagers and their “epic love story”, unfolding in modern-day Los Angeles in 2018. In the brief two-minute teaser, the main pair—Michael Cooper Jr., portrayed by Justin Edwards, and Lovie Simone as Keisha Clark—reunite after many years since their initial encounter as children. As they navigate high school together, their friendship gradually transforms into a passionate romance that may prove too overwhelming for them to manage.

Since its publication in 1975, the original novel has stirred up debate due to its content. The protagonists, Katherine and Michael, navigate through the intense feelings that accompany young love, which has resulted in the book being prohibited in Florida’s Martin County School District in 2023.

In the very same year, I found myself shining brightly as the main focus in my Amazon documentary, even amidst some resistance – a testament to the enduring power and appeal of my work.

The author of “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” now 86 years old, expressed her enthusiasm for writing a novel in the trailer for her documentary titled “Judy Blume Forever,” released in April. She said, “My daughter asked, ‘Mom, could you write a story about teenagers falling in love without anyone having to die?’ And I replied, ‘Absolutely!'” This was because she had a lot of experiences to express, as she grew up as a good girl with a rebellious side yearning to break free.

As for how her kids felt about the more mature content in her novels?

In 2023, Judy shared with TopMob: “They had read my books, and I believed their responses were typical. The content they were engaging with, which included discussions about sex, was acceptable. It was healthy and beneficial, as long as it was handled responsibly.
