As I gaze at the screen, I’m thrilled to share the news that the Xbox Cloud Gaming library is expanding yet again! Starting from today, gamers can now dive into the underwater world of Subnautica, explore the chilly expanses of Subnautica: Below Zero, and tend to their slimy ranches in Slime Rancher 2 – all through the power of cloud gaming, provided they own these titles. And here’s a tantalizing tidbit for the future: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, scheduled for launch on February 4, 2025, will also be joining this impressive roster!
These game titles have been added to the collection we already had (50 games) in our program. This might seem small compared to the multitude of games available for purchase on Xbox, but it’s worth noting that several prominent game developers like Larian Studios with Baldur’s Gate 3, CD Projekt RED with Cyberpunk 2077, and Saber Interactive with Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 are already on board with our program.
2024 saw the long-awaited arrival of the “Stream Your Own Game” feature on Xbox, following several setbacks. Now, gamers can enjoy playing titles through Xbox Cloud Gaming, even if they’re not part of the current Game Pass collection.
As a game enthusiast looking to share my own gaming experiences, I recognize the necessity of personally owning the specific game at hand. If the chosen game is compatible with the streaming platform, then becoming an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscriber would be the subsequent step for me. With this subscription, I’d have the ability to stream my games not just from Xbox.com/play but also through Amazon Fire TV Sticks, Meta Quest VR headsets, and Samsung TVs. It’s exciting to know that this feature is expected to extend its reach to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles, Windows PC, and LG TVs later in the year.
Xbox continues expanding access to games
Currently, Xbox is striving to broaden the avenues for gamers to enjoy their titles, allowing users to obtain games in various methods. This can be achieved either by purchasing a game outright or by subscribing to Xbox Game Pass, thereby gaining access to a vast collection of games.
Microsoft initially expressed intentions to establish an Xbox Mobile Store, but the projected launch date from July 2024 has been postponed indefinitely. The Xbox team is collaborating with certain first-party teams experienced in mobile development, such as King (creator of Candy Crush), to determine the optimal approach moving forward.
During the Xbox Developer Direct held in January 2025, the company underscored that each game presented at the event would be compatible with Xbox Cloud Gaming and Xbox Play Anywhere. The Xbox Play Anywhere feature enables gamers to play their games on both Xbox gaming consoles and Windows PCs.
