It appears that BioWare‘s string of misfortune persists. Following the financial disappointment of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which drained a significant amount from EA’s coffers, BioWare disclosed plans for restructuring and reducing staff. In simpler terms, the studio is experiencing a substantial exodus of personnel to projects at other EA studios, while there have also been additional layoffs in another wave of job cuts.
Currently, a report by Jason Schreier of Bloomberg provides additional insight into the situation at BioWare. The report indicates that the studio’s workforce has significantly decreased, now numbering fewer than 100 employees. Just a year ago, the staff count was more than double this figure.
According to reports, a number of BioWare employees were initially informed after the release of “Dragon Age: The Veilguard” that they would be temporarily assigned to other EA projects such as “Skate” and “Iron Man”. However, more recently, it’s been communicated that these transfers are now permanent. While some of these employees aren’t happy about the unexpected change, at least they are able to keep their jobs.
It’s rumored that BioWare intends to expand their team as the development of the next Mass Effect progresses further. At present, the science fiction RPG is in its early stages, with a group of veterans from the original Mass Effect trilogy spearheading the project.
