It’s not unusual for real-world incidents to affect the entertainment industry, and it appears that Adult Swim and Cartoon Network are adjusting their programming schedules due to recent airplane accidents. As a result of the tragedies in Washington D.C. and Philadelphia, Warner Bros. has temporarily removed certain episodes from popular series on both channels. Although these episodes may return at some point, they will not be aired for the time being as a mark of respect for those impacted by the crashes.
In case you haven’t heard about it, two tragic plane accidents occurred this week. The first one happened on January 29th when an Army helicopter collided with a commercial airplane, killing all 64 passengers on board the American Eagle jet and also the three military personnel in the Black Hawk helicopter. Sadly, the second accident took place on January 31st in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, involving a medical transport plane carrying six people, which unfortunately resulted in fatalities as well. Given these unfortunate events, it’s not surprising that Adult Swim and Cartoon Network would adjust their programming schedules accordingly.
Adult Swim/Cartoon Network Episodes Being Pulled
The current list of episodes that will reportedly be pulled from the schedule include:
- The Amazing World of Gumball – “The Saint”
- Courage The Cowardly Dog – “Scuba-Scuba Doo”
- Family Guy – “Boy (Dog) Meets Girl (Dog)”
- Family Guy – “Yug Ylimaf”
- Robot Chicken – “Happy Russian Deathdog Dolloween 2 U”
- Eric Andre Show – “Hannibal Quits”
According to this article, there’s been no announcement from Warner Bros. regarding the recent scheduling adjustments. Previously, both channels have taken down episodes with airplane crash references during tragic times in the past.
The Animated Episodes in Question
In the animated series “The Amazing World of Gumball,” an episode titled “The Saint” showcases a chaotic scene where a plane crash occurs due to a mishap at a charity event involving characters Gumball and Darwin. On the other hand, in “Family Guy,” two distinct episodes are worth mentioning. “Boy (Dog) Meets Girl (Dog)” contains a humorous reference to 9/11, while “Yug Ylimaf” depicts a plane crashing into a town. In the cartoon “Courage The Cowardly Dog,” an episode named “Scuba-Scuba Dog” presents an unusual scene where the main character, Courage, intentionally flies a plane into the ocean, leading to its eventual explosion.
In “Robot Chicken’s” Halloween special titled “Happy Russian Deathdog Dolloween 2 U,” there’s a joke inspired by the movie “Donnie Darko.” The closing scene reenacts a moment from the film where a character portraying “Frank The Rabbit” is hit by an airplane engine. Similarly, on “The Eric Andre Show,” in the episode titled “Hannibal Quits,” there’s a segment where Eric feigns having plummeted from a plane to perplexed bystanders below. No information has been released yet about when or if these episodes will air again following recent plane crashes.
