Ubisoft recently announced that they are updating the PlayStation 4 game Far Cry: New Dawn for smoother gameplay on PlayStation 5. This update, which boosts the game’s frame rate to 60 FPS, is planned to be released on February 4th, 2025, aligning with the launch of Xbox Game Pass. This means that PS5 owners can enjoy a more seamless version of the 2019 spin-off of Far Cry 5 starting from that date.
The FPS Boost feature on the title was verified past Friday evening when Xbox Series X|S users found they could no longer use it. To make the update work on Xbox consoles, the feature must be momentarily turned off. Since the PS5 doesn’t have this capability, it just requires an update to the PS4 version. The game is currently accessible on PS Plus Extra, meaning that members can play the enhanced version at no additional cost.
Ubisoft, a French gaming publisher, has been quietly improving its older games for the PS5 by releasing FPS updates, significantly enhancing titles like Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, The Crew 2, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Far Cry 5, and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate since the console’s debut.
In our review of the PlayStation 4 version of “Far Cry: New Dawn,” we gave it a score of 6 out of 10. We noted that its RPG elements brought a nice sense of structure, but exploring Hope County felt overly repetitive, almost to the point where it was disappointing that Ubisoft didn’t take more risks and make “New Dawn” into a completely outrageous spin-off instead of a sequel with a very serious narrative.
