Actor Simu Liu from the movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” has been collaborating with the owners of the rights for the game “Sleeping Dogs” to develop a live-action film. Previously, Donnie Yen was set to star in an adaptation (which was announced in 2017), but unfortunately, that project did not come to fruition.
It looks like all of Liu’s hard work is finally paying off! As IGN reports, a source close to the project has shared some exciting news – the game is in development. And guess what? Our man Liu will be stepping into the shoes of Wei Shen, an undercover cop/Triad member, while also producing the game. Square Enix, the publisher, hasn’t commented on the matter yet.
The release date for the movie hasn’t been decided yet, and there’s even speculation about a follow-up. Liu has often expressed his hope for a sequel, but its realization is still uncertain.
Originally released back in 2012, “Sleeping Dogs” is a game that can be enjoyed on platforms such as Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and personal computers. Dive into our write-up to discover what made it so special. Unfortunately, a follow-up was abandoned in 2013, and a multiplayer spin-off titled “Triad Wars” was likewise called off prior to its planned release in 2015.
