Dragon Ball Daima’s Villains: A Major Disappointment for Fans!

In contrast to the richly iconic villains in the original Dragon Ball series from anime and manga, Dragon Ball Super seems to be disappointing fans in terms of its own antagonists. When Dragon Ball Super debuted last year, it introduced audiences to the Demon Realm for the first time, a place that had only been hinted at before with characters like Piccolo being from this region. In Dragon Ball Super, Goku and his companions are embarking on an entirely new journey through this realm, raising many questions about the franchise’s lore as a result.

As this fresh journey unfolded, a wave of mystery swept in as viewers encountered an array of fresh adversaries emerging from the Demon Realm. Since they appeared to be significantly weaker than Goku and Vegeta, these antagonists proved captivating due to their seemingly significant role within the Dragon Ball universe. However, as Dragon Ball Daima nears its conclusion, it transpires that these villains will not carry the depth or significance initially hinted at.

Dragon Ball Daima Has Terrible Villains

In the closing stages of “Dragon Ball Daima,” several long-held mysteries are being unveiled, but disappointingly, many of these revelations lack depth. This issue becomes particularly evident in Episode 16, where Degesu finally takes action. Initially presented as an agent of the Supreme Demon King Gomah with ulterior motives, it’s revealed that his true ambition is to seize the position of Supreme Demon King himself. However, instead of pursuing this role for a grand scheme, he seems content with simply taking over the position without any larger plan in mind.

In a surprising turn of events, Degesu attempts to seize baby Dende, only to be captured by Goku and his companions during the act. Faced with the threat of shooting Dende, Degesu is swiftly subdued and arrested before he can significantly influence the narrative. It’s unfortunate that this event doesn’t lead to any significant revelations considering Degesu’s connection to both the Supreme Kai and Dr. Arinsu. The Supreme Kai hints at Degesu’s ambitions for power, but the anticipated clash between the Glind siblings, as desired by fans, does not materialize into a full-blown confrontation.

The species, which includes the Supreme Kai, known as the Glind, were further developed with the expectation that it might lead to something significant. It was revealed that they were once driven out of the Second Demon Realm, and the original trees from which they originated have long since disappeared. It would have been intriguing if Degesu’s motives could be linked to this background, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. However, Degesu is just one of several characters who have fallen short in contributing to the overall narrative of the series.

Will Gomah Make Up For It in the Final Episodes?

There’s a big difference between comedic character deviations like Kuu and Duu, spin-offs of Majin Buu, and the wasted potential we saw with Degesu who was disregarded despite his abilities. Now, fans are anxious about the fate of Dr. Arinsu and Gomah, given their antagonistic roles in “Dragon Ball Daima.” With these two portrayed as the main villains, there’s a growing concern that they might disappoint us in the end.

Dr. Arinsu has been covertly planning to seize the Dragon Balls from the Demon Realm for her own purposes, yet she hasn’t shared what specific wish she intends to make with them. If it turns out that she aims to achieve the same position as Supreme Demon King as Degesu, it might be disappointing because there seems to be a lack of complexity in her motivations. This would not justify the extent of secrecy and stealthiness she’s employed. On the other hand, Gomah is the more conventional antagonist of the two.

Although he’s not as iconic or formidable as previous villains from the Dragon Ball series, the Evil Third Eye character has shown himself to be a potent adversary that Goku and Vegeta will need to overcome. It remains unclear if he is their ultimate opponent in the Demon Realm, but it appears that his sole purpose might be to serve as a powerful demon for them to fight. Compared to past villains, he lacks complexity and seems more like an adversary to punch. Unfortunately, he doesn’t live up to the flair and excitement that Dragon Ball fans have come to expect from antagonists, which is disappointing given the series’ rich history, especially considering where it all started last year.
