Capcom’s remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 are still proving to be profitable for the company. The remake of Resident Evil 2 has now sold an impressive 15 million copies, marking a increase of half a million since its last achievement, while the remake of Resident Evil 3 has reached 9.6 million sales, reflecting a rise of 400,000.
The impressive sales of both titles are remarkable considering their respective ages. For instance, the Resident Evil 2 remake was released in January 2019 across PS4, Xbox One, and PC, later making its appearance on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. This remake garnered universal praise from both critics and fans, setting a new benchmark for successful remakes.
In April 2020, the remake of Resident Evil 3 was released, but it didn’t receive as much praise as one might expect. This is because it was shorter than many players hoped, had some changes to the story, and missing content like Mercenaries mode. Additionally, the inclusion of Resident Evil: Resistance, a poorly-received asymmetrical multiplayer game, didn’t help its cause.
Capcom’s most recent reimagining is of the popular game _Resident Evil 4_, which has sold an impressive 9.2 million copies. It’s been hinted that in the future, we might see remakes for _Resident Evil Zero_ and _Resident Evil – Code: Veronica_.
